There have been several "live threads" posted today regarding the debate starting early this morning. Let's make this the official thread.
FR Live Thread: Bush Kerry - First Debate - Thread 2 - Here we go!
One advantage he has that people are forgetting: the American people have seen this President in speeches and interviews for the last three years. They don't need to get to know him. If he wasn't as articulate as Kerry on some issues, they will still remember "We hear you! And the people who knocked these buildings down will hear from all of us soon!"
Plus, I still think that Kerry's rudeness and arrogance is off-putting to many.
Kerry in his post debate speech said the most important part of this election:"
THE SUPREME COURT!
(of course who else will impose Mass.'s homosexual marriage on the rest of the nation.)

Bush had the best closing statement. HE did fine. You'll see it that way after the peoples opinon's filter down.
kerry bombed. Tell me his detailed plan for IRAQ? Tell me one damn detail? Uh huh, that's what I thought!

The President came across, well, presidential and friendly. He brushed aside the personal insults and spoke to statesman issues: strength, certainty, etc.
Kerry sounded informed but petty, making little snipes all night. The questions were very favorable for Kerry, but he couldn't cash them in.
I took particular note of Kerry's appeal to nuclear proliferation as the greatest threat facing America. Bush got it right when he said the greatest threat was weapons of mass destruction in the hands of terrorists. The much cheaper and equally deadly biochems are weapons a terrorist could more easily obtain.
But the candidates weren't speaking to those of us with a lot of information and/or a political prejudice, they were speaking to the undecided voters who make their decision on broad strokes - personality, leadership traits, etc. Bush won that contest, IMHO.
If the Freepers here had a problem with Bush not tearing into Kerry, imagine how the anti-war Democrats will be upset with Kerry for not promising to cut-and-run from Iraq?
Kerry just stood there and told lies.
How in 90 seconds is the President supposed to rebut 5 or 6 lies that Kerry managed to tell in his 2 minute statement.
Here's where I think the President scored the most points.
He said to lead the nation you must be resolute and not give in to pressure.
Then Kerry says he's never wavered...and any American other than the koolaid drinking hardcore Dems know that he has.
That has been well publicized in soundbite after soundbite.
If people believe that the leader of this country and the WOT must be a man of values, they'll elect Bush...if the country wants to live in a pre 9/11 world with blinders on, they'll elect Kerry.
All in all, it comes down to the voters, they elected Clinton, they could elect Kerry. That's a scary thought.
But I have to believe that many Americans see the issues of the post 9/11 world and will in the end vote for Bush.
Bush didn't hit one out of the park, but I can't say I expected him to. I didn't expect him to be articulate, hasn't 4 years of him in office showed most Americans that he is not articulate much of the time.
Words are cheap, lies are cheaper...Kerry told some whoppers, made some campaign promises that were worthless, and in the end, I don't think the debate will matter at election time. The voters core beliefs will matter and you don't change those during a debate.
I think he could have done better as well. I wish he had pointed out that Kerry's constant demand for bilateral talks with the illmatic in North Korea would be the opposite of what he is demanding in Iraq - a coalition! I hope that comes out in the reviews.
Bush was out there tonite for us to see him, his vision, his heart, his determination that Iraq and the rest of the world can be free and peaceful. It was about a higher plane. His spirit.
What an inspiration and a president I can truly believe say I am proud of.
Next time I'll put honesty into the back seat, and I'll say he looked great, and drove the debate right into the winning circle of victory. Avoid all those holding knifes, looking to kill honest opinion.

FNC has Tommy Franks coming up soon and, IIRC, Kerry misrepresented Tommy's position on Iraq tonight. I hope the good general calls Kerry on it -- big time.

Yes he did! He stated that it was the Enriched Uranium that led to the outing of the Inspectors, and that NK had started that program before he took office.

And he kind of b$ch slapped Kerry on NK also. A lot of what Kerry said made no sense or just would not work . The rest Kerry mentioned is already being done.
By mid-day tomorrow, those women will also know that Dubya spent the day hugging and comforting storm victems and that Kerry spent the day in the spa getting a manicure.
No, you only THINK Kerry won.

I heard sKerry say something very frightening that no one has mentioned. He said he would give nuclear fuel to Iran to "see if they want to use it for peaceful purposes". WTF?????
