'DON'T VOTE' billboards anger activists (heh)

A series of billboards around the Twin Cities that brazenly declare "DON'T VOTE" have angered civil rights activists.

Fifteen of the billboards have sprung up in Minneapolis, St. Paul and its suburbs in the last few days. Several are in areas with large minority populations, including the Phillips neighborhood in Minneapolis, leading the NAACP and other groups to criticize even the suggestion that citizens shouldn't exercise the right to vote.

"This is a highly sensitive election season, and to put it in areas like the Phillips neighborhood, that's a minority community that's been disenfranchised enough," Brett Buckner, NAACP branch president in Minneapolis, said Friday. "I don't care what kind of campaign this is, that community's been through enough."

[snip] the NAACP and other local groups are considering a press conference next week to criticize the billboards.

This has to be a democrat trick. What could be more stimulating TO vote then someone telling you not to vote. This also plays right into the hands of the dems, so they can say republicans are supressing the black vote. I bet dem money is behind it.

Hey, Brett, can you name ONE INSTANCE of actual disenfranchisement? That is against federal law, you know. If you have evidence of such a crime, you need to spit it out. If you don't, then you just need to SHUT UP.

Sure it is. The teaser will say something like: "If you don't care if the Republicans continue to rob you of your rights!" or some such nonsense.

From the article...

The billboards are owned by Clear Channel Communications Inc. Lee Ann Muller, the company's general manager for outdoor advertising in Minnesota, wouldn't say who is paying for the billboards, but said it's a "teaser" campaign and its full meaning would become clear soon.

Obviously it is some sort of ploy to get the vote out of the minority areas. Clear Channel is very politically correct and would not risk it's rep unless it was in this vein.

Just another ploy of making news to keep them in the news that the demos/race baiters sponcer all the time.

Awesome pic and t-shirt. It would be even better if it had a caricature of an old-lady dropping in a ballot.

The NAACP is upset about these "teaser" billboards because the phrase is dangerously close to the slogan of the NAACP, which is: DON'T THINK.

There is another poster named "devolve" who was posting news of far more significance just before FR went down. Specifically, some group is offering a reward to anyone who fingers a fraudulent voter. The more money in that reward the better. This, plus digicam equipped poll watchers, could undo this supposed registration advantage.

Well, phase one of whatever campaign is going on sounds good to me! :-)

I'm positive phase 2 from Clear Channel will be a giant PC compilation of a goobly gook reversal and totally let us down!

But, any verbage writen anywhere on anything at any time that UPSETS snakeoil salesmen known as civil rights activists is a darn good thing. The squealing sounds they make when you ruffle their feathers are hilarious, encouraging, and if any of them had a conscience, humiliating!

"Several are in areas with large minority populations, including the Phillips neighborhood in Minneapolis,..."

I used to live in the Phillips neighborhood. I usually had trouble getting to sleep, especially around welfare day. Then winter came, and the Indians beat their wives indoors, rather than out in the street. Six months of shut-eye!

Whoever's renting those signs ain't targeting the winos in THAT neighborhood.

Stupid and unformed people should NOT vote and cancel MY vote out.

And that goes for whatever political leanings someone is.
