Cheney met Edwards at a prayer breakfast?

Posted on 10/06/2004 6:27:56 AM PDT by Mr. Goodcrank

I think Cheney made the case that Edwards and Kerry simply have better things to do than "report for duty". Their voting records reflect this. Cheney skewered Edwards when he said that the debate was the first time that he had met Edwards. Cheney evidently forgot about that one time at the prayer breakfast. Aside from the fact that Dick Cheney has made literally thousands of more memorable acquaintances since that ONE time. Aside from the fact that Edwards may not have made a lasting favorable impression. Aside from the fact that Cheney may have meant "met" in a more substantial way than a prayer breakfast. How does ONE social gathering compensate for, or mitigate, the fact that Edwards and Kerry are chronic no-shows? This proves that Cheney is a liar? There must not be many straws left to grasp!

CC Connelly on Fox last night said,,well "Cheney goes to the party lunches, of course he isn't going to run into Edwards," or something to that effect (that was a paraphrase). Who said anything about lunch?

IIRC the ever-charming CeCe [/s] claimed Cheney was talking about some kind of Tuesday Senate "lunches."

You're right, Cheney didn't say anything about lunches; he was talking about public sessions of the full Senate, over which, of course, VP Cheney presides as president of the Senate.

Persactly! Thanks again. I didn't think it was that difficult to follow. I guess trying to disagree with Bush's immigration policies is a definite no-no. Don't want to start a meltdown! My first impression of FR may have been a little hasty.

"Crank this!... Troll!"

The count is now up to three previous meetings. The prayer breakfast. A "thank you" by name on the Senate floor. A handshake following an appearance on "Meet The Press."

A few moments ago on MSNBC, after saying Cheney "clobbered" Edwards, Chris Matthews launched into an attack on some of Cheny's statements. Matthews pointed to a "Meet The Press" clip in which Cheney supposedly claimed there was a direct link between Saddam and 9/11. Matthews then launched into a tirade listing a series of Cheney misstatements.

I watched that "Meet the Press" clip twice. Cheney says no more than what he has always said. Saddam, through his henchmen, had contact with terrorists. He never said Saddam played a direct role, or even an indirect support role, in the 9/11 attack.

But, while Matthews called upon the MSM to hold Cheney accountable for his remarks, he failed to call upon the MSM to hold Kerry/Edwards accountable for their Senate performances, or the lack of one.

“And Senator, frankly, you have a record in the Senate that’s not very distinguished. You’ve missed 33 out of 36 meetings in the Judiciary Committee, almost 70 percent of the meetings of the Intelligence Committee.

“You’ve missed a lot of key votes: on tax policy, on energy, on Medicare reform.

“Your hometown newspaper has taken to calling you “Senator Gone.” You’ve got one of the worst attendance records in the United States Senate.

Seems to fit the bill, amazing that he is given a pass on this behavior.

Cheney was speaking of meeting Edwards in Cheney's capacity as President of the Senate, not at social occassions. He was speaking of not having any ineteraction with him on a professional level, largely do to Sen. Edwards poor attendance at the job he was elected to perform.

No, I don't.

You need to relax. You're the one who swooped in to chastise "everyone".

This proves that Cheney is a liar?

And, Mr Goodcrank, you have no problem with Kerry telling lies like being in Cambodia for Christmas? Like shucking corn at age 12 at his aunt's farm while he wasn't even in the US during his 12th year? Like deer hunting while crawling through the forest on his belly? Like getting a suntan from the sun and not a bottle? Like.... and I could go on, and on, and on.....

But then again, you would probably just continue to drink your kool-aide......

This reminds me of a real story from one of my Liberal friends.

He told me when he was late to work one morning that it was a late night in that he had dinner with the President.

I'm thinking "dinner" like at the same table, sharing conversation, debating who is going to pick up the check, etc.

Years later I learned it was a Democratic Fund Raiser and he was in a group of a couple hundred other folks, while the President (Clinton at the time) was sitting on the podium with Gephardt and a bunch of other folks from the DNC.

Guess, it's just a difference of philosophy what "Having Dinner with the President" means.

I agree, Cheney qualified that he had never met Edwards at any of the Senate meetings. They can spin all they want, but the records stand on the Kerry/Edwards scorecard as to exactly what their attendance was in the Senate.

I also liked the fact that Edwards wasn't present to vote on some of the major health care, educational and social security bills recently. Wonder what the MRS Edwards has to respond to that.

BTW, who is really going to run our Country? I beginning to think Mrs. Kerry and Mrs. Edwards. These two guys are wimps.

I sit next to alot of people at social functions without actually "meeting" them. I guess the Breck Girl didn't make much of an impression on the VP if Cheney doesn't recall the meeting.

:-)

I think you need to reread his comments - he is defending Cheney - Now do the right thing and apologize ;-)

Oh I know he was defending the VP.

So typical Lib to use a brief meeting to prove a point. Kind like an employer saying he has never seen an employee before and then some one remembers that they met at the company picnic. Ok the VP met Edwards, but when was Edwards on the job is the point of the question?
