Kerry has a double-dose of God as he stumps for black voters

MIAMI -- With just three Sundays left before Election Day, Sen. John Kerry is asking for all the help he can get from black voters and the Almighty.

The Democratic presidential nominee attended two church services Sunday, instead of his usual one, worshipping first with Haitian Catholics and then with black Baptists, where the Rev. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton tied his election to the civil rights struggle.

"We have an unfinished march in this nation," Kerry said at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, as many congregants waved fans handed out by the campaign with his slogan, "Hope is on the way."

"Never again will a million African Americans be denied the right to exercise their vote in the United States of America," Kerry promised, referring to the disputed Florida recount in the 2000 presidential race. As he often does before black audiences, Kerry said he has a legal team that will aggressively respond to any allegations of disenfranchisement.

Pickler Alert!

More politics from the pulpit. The so-called wall of seperation only applies to Republicans.

How come no one in the media, ever ever ever calls him on this obvious inflammatory lie?

In the black community, church life is more of a cultural thing than a spiritual thing. That's how they can go to church on Sunday and vote for baby killers and queer marriage advocates on Tuesday. No morals, no convictions.

I saw a clip of this on the news.

Kerry was saying he sees "people out there talking about their faith...putting it out there. But where are they when there are deeds to be done?" I think he called it "fake faith". He said we have TO ACT ON OUR FAITH, FOLLOW WHAT IT TEACHES US.

Okey Dokey. What about abortion, Senator? What a sham.

For Democrats in "people-of-color" churches?

Thanks for the comic relief during this battle for the soul of America.

no dems: Don't write off all blacks as liberals. Bush is going to pick up a larger percentage of the black vote this time. Many blacks are doing great things for the GOP.

I hope to see Bush visit a black church or two before Nov 2, he has done well in that environment.

The enemy is Liberalism, not blacks.

Between now and election day, there will be a full out mobilization of the Black vote. Turnout is everything and to achieve it, the Rats will say/do anything to anger the inner city. After the passion is raised to a fever pitch, the salve of walking around money will be handed out like popcorn to urban "leaders" who will be expected to turnout their peeps.

so-called wall of seperation only applies to Republicans.

If they are Christians.

If they are anything else, it's OK.
After all, Jefferson didn't mention anything about "separation of mosque/temple/shrine and state".
Hence, the selective persecution of conservative Christian groups is
the proper secular-scripture approach.

Doubt it? Just ask the ACLU.

Well to be fair, polls show that most blacks do oppose gay marriage.

I think it has more to do with the competition between the big, so-called bread and butter issues versus the social ones. In other words, even most blacks who oppose gay marriage and abortion on demand are not going to vote against Kerry or other Dems who support those two things yet say all the right things when it comes to 'civil rights', education and health care spending, etc.

You see it all the time. Take California for example. There the majority of Hispanics (and blacks too ???) voted for the ban on gay marriage, yet they turn right around and vote for politicians who oppose them on that issue and others.

Did the NAALCP EVER apologize for this BS smear ad against Bush !?!?!:

October 31, 2000
Liberal Dirty Tricks Ignored

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is now airing an ad that seeks to exploit black fears of white crime. Actually, that’s too kind. Over black and white video of a pickup truck dragging a chain, the daughter of Texas dragging death victim James Byrd declares, "So when Gov. George W. Bush refused to sign hate crimes legislation, it was like my father was killed all over again."

Gov. Bush is being tied directly to a vicious racist lynching. And from Brokaw, Jennings, Rather, Shaw & Co. -- not a peep. Clearly this is the most unfair, divisive, and repugnant ad in many moons, and it’s met with silence? At the very least, if the media were truly disinterested observers of the campaign and truly interested in the appearance of balance, they could draw an easy parallel between the Horton and Byrd spots for their hallowed "Ad Watch" pieces. But that would be false parity. Nothing Gov. Bush did led to Byrd’s death, and under Gov. Bush, two of his assailants will be put to death, while the furlough program under Gov. Dukakis allowed the release of Horton to commit more violent crimes.

But the media did something worse than sheer silence. They are portraying Bush as the villain of last-minute negative advertising, bringing the public’s attention to a different ad, a strange reproduction of Lyndon Johnson’s outrageous 1964 "Daisy" ad that suggested Barry Goldwater would lead America into nuclear war. The copycats behind this silliness tried the two-wrongs-make-a-right strategy, suggesting Chinese espionage under Clinton-Gore could lead to nuclear war.

The ad buy was tiny – just $60,000 – but the media gave it millions of dollars worth of airplay. Why the rush to this mysterious ad? An Associated Press story on October 27 began: "The Gore campaign said a new Republican attack advertisement modeled after the infamous ‘Daisy’ commercial...is a ‘desperate tactic’ by conservatives to help George W. Bush." While the AP promoted the "Daisy" ad story today as "top news," they did not report on the NAACP ad. It didn’t matter that the NAACP boasted of spending $2 million, not $60,000, on their advertising attack.

He'd have to be very careful about that, otherwise he'd be setting himself up for a PR disaster as he is booed out of a Dem-friendly church.

I hope Bush does do better with blacks this time, but he did so bad last time that there isn't much room except up. I don't think he'll really improve, but I hope I'm wrong.

If Bush doesn't improve his share of the white vote, however, he will most definitely lose.
