Jimmy Carter: Like Iraq The Revolutionary War Was Unnecessary!
Harball 10/18/04

Posted on 10/19/2004 7:04:03 PM PDT by notkerry

MATTHEWS: Let me ask you the question about—this is going to cause some trouble with people—but as an historian now and studying the Revolutionary War as it was fought out in the South in those last years of the War, insurgency against a powerful British force, do you see any parallels between the fighting that we did on our side and the fighting that is going on in Iraq today?

CARTER: Well, one parallel is that the Revolutionary War, more than any other war up until recently, has been the most bloody war we‘ve fought. I think another parallel is that in some ways the Revolutionary War could have been avoided. It was an unnecessary war.

Had the British Parliament been a little more sensitive to the colonial‘s really legitimate complaints and requests the war could have been avoided completely, and of course now we would have been a free country now as is Canada and India and Australia, having gotten our independence in a nonviolent way.

I think in many ways the British were very misled in going to war against America and in trying to enforce their will on people who were quite different from them at the time.

"How in the hell did this person get elected to be President.. What a dolt!."

I hate to open my mouth, but I think it's because Americans are becoming socialists to a frightening degree. Agreed on the dolt comment, although it's a bit milder a term than might be used!

It's a common belief that the English behavior that caused our revolution was incredibly stupid.

But it didn't cost them anything. Afterwards we remained a very profitable customer, and paid for 100% of our administration ourselves.

Without the US, do you think the British would have given freedom to all those other countries?

Everything "could've" been different. The whole reason the war was fought was because things unfolded as they did at that moment in time.

Sheesh, I could've gotten better grades in my first year college if I applied myself some more and didn't coast on what I already knew in my least favorite subjects.

My mother-in-law voted for Carter in 1976 and immediately saw the error of her ways.

To this day, she refers to him as "That da&$ peanut Carter!!!" and her daughters have followed suit.

No truer words were spoken, friend.

It has taken the extremist years of Clinton/Gore/Kerry for me to realize, that the McCarthy/Kennedy/Watergate/Vietnam history of America was completely and utterly manipulated by the mainstream Liberal communists of the media.

Throw out almost everything you thought you knew about those eras, because they are a figment of a collectivist's imagination.

"insurgency against a powerful British force,'

Is Matthews trying/implying to say that the "insurgents" in Iraq are comparable to American Revolutionary war FREEDOM FIGHTERS!?

The logical extension of RAT policy hasn't changed in EONS!

What does it say about the culture war for the heart of America when the DemocRAT(ic) Party can only put forward people like: peanut play-boy, Frits dipsquit Mondale, Dukakadouche, ex-TRIMPOTUS, heil algore and now Hanoi John..?

God help America if JFnK the Communist traitor gets more than 40% of the popular vote and 1 or 2 states...
