That's the problem. Keyes is a principled man of conviction, but he won't get elected to any office with a policy agenda that doesn't take the views of mainstream Americans into consideration.
You support most of the Keyes agenda. I support a great deal of it. But that doesn't help in getting him elected in Illinois or most of the America.
Know what I mean?
Late to the party - does anyone know if this will re-air?
This will be a closer race than people think. Christian Democrats are uneasy about the moral direction taken by their party.
I have never heard the President support a national sales tax. Speaker Hastert wrote about it in his new book. I don't support it myself, but would support a flat percentage income tax rate for all workers. Dick Armey had a plan several years back that called for a flat 18% for all taxpayers.
Everytime I knew Keyes was going to speak I have encouraged my kids to listen because he is the absolute best when it comes to articulating the Christian argument on key issues in a concise, kind, accurage way without being offensive or condeming. Anyone can learn better communication skills by listening to him. He really is incredible.
Okay I got CSPAN's site to load finally. It looks like it's reairing - for me - 10pm tonight. :)
Replays:
On regular C-Span at 6:29am Eastern, I'm told...
C-SPAN II at 12:09am Eastern...
They usually replay it later on tonight. Check out your local TV listings at ZapTV.
The Administration has broadly hinted at it coming to pass in the second term.
Probably the right move politically.
And I say that as a supporter of the NRST for over a decade.
BTW, sorry I couldn't get the debate here in CA. Keyes is such a clear thinker. The great state of Illinois could benefet so much from his service.
What a great debate! Go Alan Go! Keyes did not mix words with the 2nd and 17th amendments. He also gave an incredibly conclusive and coherent meaning of 'marriage.' His statement on black abortions should have brought tears to Obama's eyes, but it didn't happen.
I was particularly interested in hearing how Obama was going to spin the 17th. He clearly failed on the 2nd, and danced on the 17th. We don't need another socialist 'lawyer' in Washington. All he would bring with him would be more creative ways to 'uzurp' the Constitution. (Thank you, Mr. Keyes. :>)
"he can run, but he can't hide"
Indeed. The whole country could.
Not to be hyperbolic, but the whole world would benefit.
Dr. Keyes is brilliant foreign-policy-wise.
Obama responded by saying that the people that he speaks to want to hear about jobs, etc. He sounded absolutely cold, heartless and mercenary, which, in fact, he is.
The debate format was extremely effective. The debate moved briskly, but both candidates were able to present their arguments in the allotted time. The time flew by, but no additional time was necessary.
Alan expressed his positions clearly and precisely and landed body blow after body blow on both his opponent and the media. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
In the interchange regarding faith, Alan exposed Obama as a poseur, and issued a compelling challenge to all Christians of good will, to cast a vote for morality or to cast a vote for ineffectual big government.
Bravo Alan. A+++
Agreed. Sadly, that is far to small a population.
I should have said, "eventually wins".
Keyes would make an excellent SCOTUS justice. Absolutely!
Of course, the Senate Democrats would rather have their eyes poked out with red-hot irons than vote for him. LOL!
Ouch! Don't kill my buzz 8-)
Great comments/observations.
It did fly by, didn't it...
Time flies when you're having fun.......watching RAT 'rising stars' get smashed to little-bitty pieces. ;-)
The only thing Obama has to be thankful for tonight is that his base of support, aka the media, is intact.
Oh, and that he was able to keep his facial tic in check...
