"He indicated that he "hesitated" to share his reccomendation with everyone, but many people have asked him which candidate would be more helpful to the company. He endorsed Kerry and asked everyone to vote. "

LOL! => Many people asked him which candidate would be more helpful to the co. The guy's full of it. He can do that, but since he has, others in the company can voice their opinions. Also, folks should write him back and request that he be specific. Exactly how is Mr. Kerry going to help this company?

Folks may not be in a position to play with this clown, but they can if they want. USC 18 245 protects workers from imtimidation by employers and other folks. Specifically, they can't sanction(fire, demote, or otherwise harm) anyone for voicing their opinions in the matter, since the "bossman" has already voiced his.

The relevant part of USC18 245 Whoever, whether or not acting under color of law,..., or attempts to injure, intimidate or interfere with- (1) any person because he is or has been, or in order to intimidate such person or any other person or any class of persons from -

1(A) voting... in any primary, special, or general election;

(5) any citizen because he is or has been, or in order to intimidate such citizen...from lawfully aiding or encouraging other persons to participate, without discrimination on account of race, color, religion or national origin, in any of the benefits or activities described in subparagraphs (1)(A) through (1)(E) or subparagraphs (2)(A) through (2)(F), or participating lawfully in speechor peaceful assembly opposing any denial of the opportunity to so participate - shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned not more than one year, or both

18USC241 COnspiracy against rights.

If two or more persons conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or because of his having so exercised the same; or...

They shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; ...

This was covered in this thread The woman was fired for refusing to remove a Kerry sticker from her car.

Minimum wage increases won't make poor workers $7/hr. It would make them unemployed.

Are you so worried about the unemployed? I think paying $7 is not going to create unemployment, only higher prices on the fat cat "foremen" who are making $60/hr, and too cheap to pay the low level workers $7/hr.

The correlation between wages and productivity is 0.996 - about as close a correlation as you can get. If they can't produce $7/hr, they won't be paid $7/hr.

A $1 pack of cigarette and a $1 gallon of gas have doubled, I cannot imagine why the poor dish washer's effort is not worth $7/hr to you. Is it because he is too slow, and unable to speak English to fight for his rights? I do agree that labor union have been corrupted, however, we can clean the unions rather than allow the boss to enslave the workers.

Is this legal, ethical or just tacky?

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer and I do not play one of these slugs on tee vee. :)

It may be legal but it is certainly unethical. That said, find out from your wife if;
1.) The corporation is a PUBLICALLY TRADED company.
AND
2.) The CEO has issued and signed himself a Code Of Business Conduct And Ethics for the publically traded company. AND
3.) The CEO has signed a Guide To Corporate Governance as must be signed by all CEO's of publically traded corporations. (I can't recall the specific code number for this regulation/law).

IF AND ONLY IF all three of the above are fact, then I'm pretty confident the CEO has indeed broken the law and could be liable.

It is a public company, shares traded.

Many such companies have an anonymous "ethics hotline" where such actions can be reported. I suggest your wife seek it out.
