Actor Opposed to Taxpayer-funded Human Cloning

Colorado Springs, Colo. — Focus on the Family Founder and Chairman Dr. James C. Dobson will interview Mel Gibson, director of the critically acclaimed “The Passion of the Christ,” on his daily radio program Monday, Nov. 1, on the actor’s outspoken opposition to California’s Proposition 71. The initiative proposes to amend the state’s constitution to foist $6 billion in public debt on Californians to fund the cloning of human embryos for destructive embryonic stem-cell research. “Why are we being misled into thinking Prop 71 isn’t about cloning, when it is?” Gibson asked. “I’m voting ‘no’ on Prop 71 – creating life simply to destroy it is wrong, particularly when there are effective alternatives readily available.

“In 23 years, [animal] embryonic stem-cell research has not produced a single human cure. All it’s yielded is tumors, rejection and mutations.”

“The true promise for treatment and cures lies with adult stem-cells, which do not require the cloning of human embryos nor the destruction of those embryos,” Dobson said. “The National Institutes of Health reports at least 74 diseases treatable by adult stem-cells. Sacrificing the tiniest members of the human family on the altar of science – and questionable science at best – is nothing short of state-funded cannibalism.”

Thank you for your welcome.

I, too, will be having a lot of trouble sleeping before Tuesday's result is known (on Wednesday, our time).

The positive is it gives me more time to pray for the President's victory.

Is FR being hacked? Strange things are happened when I use the back arrow to return - colors reverse, columns out of sync, etc.

Mel is great but he is acting so strange lately. If he keeps it up I'm concerned his credibility will be in question. Did you see the tape of him taking aimlessly and somewhat incoherently about the presidential canidates? He was rambling on about how he didn't like either choice but when God gives you lemons you have to figure out which canidate is the better lemon and then squeeze him till you get lemonade. It was bizzare.

But, I'd vote "no" with him if I were in CA.

I saw the edited bits on E! but missed the original interview. My friend saw it and said he was fine...just very animated at the end...Wasn't he trying to be funny?? I thought he was using hum our to hide his real feelings...I don't think he liked being drawn off the prop 71 issue and onto the election. He saw a trap me think!

You may be right. I didn't see the whole thing but what I saw did look bizzare and anything appearing bizzare is great fodder for those who want to destroy you, your credibility or your career. This is not the first time I've seen him speaking in a strange manner as of late. I just hope he is all right.

I can't imagine why he would have any problem voting for Bush since Kerry is anti everything Catholic. Maybe with Bush's going to war and not being against the death penalty is enough to make both canidates a bad choice for him.
