Now that we have 04, who do we want in 08?

Posted on 11/03/2004 8:29:11 PM PST by gmelone

Everyone seems to think that Cheney won't seek the nomination for '08. So, we need to start thinking about who we want for the '08 ticket. Lots of names were bandied about before the election.

Now that we've got four years to think about it, who does everyone want to see on the '08 ticket?

We've had Bushes in the White House for most of the last 24 years.

Let's give it a rest, shall we?

Santorum. Let us count the ways:

1. Young.
2. Good on T.V., articulate.
3. Genuine Catholic. Maried, children.
4. Socially conservative.
5. Can talk values and morals.
6. Has taken on the homosexuals.
7. Northeastern, from Blue State in Blue region.
8. Would likely carry PA, which would play havoc with Dems.
9. Will have recently earned reelection to Senate in 2006.
10. Super debater. Destroyed Wofford in 1994 by deriding Americorp as "a bunch of hippie kids to sit around the campfire, holding hands and singing ‘Kumbaya.’"

I'm with you, I think Pawlenty would a great choice and very electable. Depends on what he gets done in Minnesota these next few years. I would either line him up with Condi or Arnold. It seems to me there is no constitutional requirement on being natural born to run on the veep side. If Arnold woulg go for it...and if he saw no other ticket to Washington he just might...it would be a pretty potent ticket.

Hillary! won't make it past the primaries. The libs will learn a valuable lesson from this election. Whatch out for an Evan Bayh/Barak Obama ticket. Bayh would pull Indiana, and spill over to Ohio and Missouri.

It has to be Senator Voinovich of Ohio.

Look at the Midwest and think hard. This is the only region that is not a solid lock by either party, because the Midwesterners are socially conservative, but wage earners who believe in government and social insurance such as social security. They work for big corporations and are vulnerable to layoffs.
Think about Michigan: it voted overwhelmingly against gay marriage, but it still voted for the Democrats. Wisconsin and Minnesota did the same. These people are not crazy liberals, they are conservative, patriotic people who believe in government. It's a problematic region for either party.
So you need a Midwesterner to talk to Midwesterners.

Voinovich is in his second term in the Senate and has impeccable conservative credentials on the social issues. He also has executive experience as the popular two-term governor of Ohio...a rather crucial "swing state".

He'll be 72 in 2008, still young enough to run.

And remember, Hillary Clinton is a Midwesterner, from Illinois. That is her home region. The blue states that went blue this time will go blue next time, and she'll have a good shot at turning Iowa back blue and Missouri, and winning the election.

The Republicans have to field a Midwesterner next time, and Voinovich is the man.

Of course it won't make a damn bit of difference who they field if Spector blocks pro-life judges from the Supreme Court in his Senate judiciary committee. Because the Christian right will not come out and vote next time if that happens no matter who is at the top of the Republican ticket.

How about Largent / Rice,; Largent / Santorum. Flip them if you like. We get Largent to go again for OK Gov. (this time with out third party idiot to mess things up) and then set him up for big run. Check his past, very consevative.

Here is a list of people I think will ponder a presidential run...

Rick Perry
Condi Rice
Rudi Giuliani
John McCain
Bill Owens
Rick Santorum
Tim Pawlenty
George Allen
Jeb Bush
Bill Frist
George Pataki.

Personally, I am looking for someone who is relatively young, articulate, from a swing state, and is conservative.

I will give a serious look at Santorum, Allen, Frist, Pawlenty, and Owens.

I have the man for you, then. Mike Huckabee, a president Arkansas could be proud of. I've met the man, interviewed him numerous times while working in LR, and think he'd be an outstanding candidate, especially if he had a good, level-headed strong border veep like Tom Tancredo.

We need someone who will help push those upper midwest swing states over for good (Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan). Thats the region we need to appeal to.

If you want a conservative, you'd better strike RINO Giuliani, John McCommie, Bill Frist and George Pataki off the list. I like Jeb, and voted for him for governor when I was in FloriDUH, but I do not want to see another Bush in the WH. The whole concept of a dynasty makes me quite nervous.

No, I mean Laura!

Oh LOL I see that now. I would REALLY like Zell Miller up there but i don't think he could keep from blowing a gasket.

Julliani MIGHT work but he would definitly need speech lessons he sounds like a fag( sorry rudy I like you but its true )

Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter ? Oh yeah baby, but they are feminine girls, when the doodie hits the fan they might start crying..on the converse the Hildebeast strikes me as an asexual morph of some kind who could definitly kill without flinching

It looks like Pawlenty and Huckabee would be good candidates. The thought of nabbing Minnesota would definitely be an advantage.
