Priority 1: Remove Specter from the Judciary (Day 2)
11-4-04 | Always Right

Posted on 11/04/2004 5:54:36 AM PST by Always Right

In Day One we established the need to remove Specter from the Judiciary. To sum it up:

1. Specter is in line to become Chairman of the Judiciary.
2. Specter yesterday showed he expects to obstruct Bush in nominating conservative judges.
3. Specter’s vision of a ‘balance court’ is the exact same rhetoric of Senator Kerry.
4. Specter will do whatever it takes to see the courts do not become conservative. Read his books.
5. Specter is a huge proponent of Rov v. Wade.
6. Specter was not elected President, but has threatened the President should he nominate conservative judges.
7. As Chairman, Specter has the power to kill Bush’s judicial nominations.

Now in Day 2, we must take action. Today’s goal is to create some BUZZ. We need to contact the conservative media, like Rush and Hannity and other radio talk shows. Contact FoxNews, Brit Hume, Tony Snow. Here’s an example:

Senator Specter’s remarks yesterday concerning Bush’s judicial appointments were disturbing. If nothing is done, Senator Specter is in line to be Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. We need a Chairman who supports our President and his judicial nominations in that position, not someone who is on record as wanting to obstruct the President’s judical appointments. This is a very critical position, and allowing Specter to become chairman would be no different than appointing Senator Kennedy. Specter’s vision of the court is 180 degrees off of President Bush’s. President Bush will have a difficult time enough getting appointments through, but it would be an insult if the biggest obstruction is getting past one liberal GOP Senator, especially one who Bush helped.

Also, provide them with links to yesterdays’s story, Specter warns Bush on high court nominations or the same story posted here on FreeRepublic, Specter warns Bush on high court nominations

We must not allow this back-stabbing liberal to veto President Bush’s victory.

Anyone but Spector. We don't need Republicans who encourage the appointment of these liberal nutcases.

Spectar's ill deeds go all the way back to the Warren Commission.

There is a reason why he's known as "Spectar the Defector"

Mr. SPECTER. Mr. President, after careful consideration, I am voting to confirm Mr. J. Leon Holmes for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas.

I am concerned about certain of his writings/statements where he said: ``..... concern for rape victims is a red herring because conceptions from rape occur with approximately the same frequency as snowfall in Miami .....'', ``the wife is to subordinate herself to her husband'' and analogies of pro-choice advocates to Nazis and abortion to slavery.

Mr. Holmes subsequently acknowledged ``using strident and harsh rhetoric'' on abortion and wrote to Senator Blanche Lincoln that ``I am a good bit older now and I hope more mature than I was at that time,'' blaming immaturity for his past harsh statements.

After discussing these issues with Mr. Holmes and noting that they were written some time ago, in 1980 and 1997 respectively, I do not believe that they reflect a fixed state of mind demonstrating a pre-disposition on judicial issues to come before his Court. I am also mindful that, as a District Court Judge, his decisions will be subject to review by the Court of Appeals. There would be a substantially different consideration if he were a Circuit Court Judge where he could cast the decisive vote on a three-judge panel where it would be unlikely to be reviewed by the U.S. Supreme Court since certiorari is granted in such a small number of cases.

Mr. Holmes has a very impressive academic record, graduating first in his law school class at the University of Arkansas, holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Duke University and an M.A. degree from Northern Illinois University and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

In voting for confirmation of Mr. Holmes, I also noted that he has the support of both of his home State senators. In their floor statements, Senator BLANCHE LINCOLN and Senator MARK PRYOR noted that Mr. Holmes has broad support among pro-choice advocates from Arkansas, and both Senators concluded that he should be confirmed based on their knowledge of his legal skills, temperament and character and based on his reputation in their community among others who know him. In addition to their floor statements, I talked individually to Senators LINCOLN and PRYOR who amplified to me their solid support for Mr. Holmes.

For these reasons, I am voting to confirm Mr. J. Leon Holmes.

NOMINATION OF J. LEON HOLMES, TO BE UNITED STATES DISTRICT JUDGE--Continued -- (Senate - July 06, 2004)

Agreed for Specter to come out the very day the election is decided and pull a rino prank is sad.

I can only hope for a tougher W than the first term. Calls for "Healing divides" and "reaching out" Are nothing more than liberal trickery and, them asking for things they WOULD NEVER do for us. they need to be ignored.

One thing about evil it has a need to be seen and that is what Spector represents. He required the participation of the President to get reelected and then, without the need to say anything, he opens his trap and "warns" the president that he's no pushover. What a guttersnipe traitor he is. Years ago, I was at a Philadelphia bar when he was "happily" married. I sat there and heard him put the make on a young woman I knew who worked for his campaign. "My wife doesn't understand my needs..." was his line! Unbelievable! His wife, Joan, must be a sainte to put up with this man. We, however, do not have to. Let's get him on the dogcatcher committee. On second thought, I like dogs.

Nobody despises Specter more than I do, but if the RNC had of given any aid to PA, just enough for table workers in fraud ridden areas, we could have delivered PA.  The PA R Ward Leaders and committee people worked around the clock with no support nationally.

Heck, if the RNC hadn't gone all out for Specter, sending G Dub and Cheney et al, across the state time and again, we'd have Pat Toomey in the Senate right now.

Thanks for starting this effort. We had yesterday to rest... today it's back in the fight.

Our Senators will be home for the holidays fairly soon. In addition to calling/faxing/emailing, I'd try catching them at any local events they attend. Some quiet words in person also have an effect.

Just sent courteous e-mail to Frist reminding him that success in this election wasn't due as much to any really clever stategies by the politicians, as it was to the 'will of the people being being voiced. Now it's time for these elected politicians to honor and serve the will of the people....

That's one Senate seat it wouldn't bother me to lose as long as we maintained the majority. I washed my hands of Specter when he apologized to Anita Hill.

I sent my email to the Majority Leader, Senator Bill Frist, on his contact form at frist.senate.gov. He is happy to hear from voters all over the U.S., not just Tennessee.
