I don't know much about provisional ballots, but the last count of provisional ballots was a little more than 155,000 in Ohio (according to the Ohio SOS website).
Another thread is discussing a dwindling Bush lead in New Mexico with the threat of the state being thrown to Kerry when all provisional ballots are counted.
Is it possible that once the votes in Ohio are counted, some fluke could put Kerry over the top? Or close the margin enough to make a recount palpable for Democrats?
I realize I'm paranoid. I realize this is irritating.
But after working so hard for so many months and being prepared for a tough, drawn out legal win, I'm nervous about all of these outstanding votes in the state we needed to win.
Go easy on me! I don't post much!
I wanted to reassure myself on this issue as well, so I went to the Ohio Secretary of State's website, where there is a PDF file showing the distribution of provisional ballots by county. The only concern I had before seeing these numbers was whether a disproportionate number were in the predominantly democratic counties. I was reassured to learn that they are actually distributed as you would expect, proportional to the population of each county. So, when they are counted, they should in general result in gains for each candidate close to the percentage of votes they won in that particular county. As a result, once these ballots are tallied, the net result should be a slight increase in Bush's overall lead. There is a small chance his lead could diminish by a few thousand votes, but the odds of Kerry garnering the 85% or more he would need to overtake Bush are akin to the likelihood of Osama bin Laden becoming a convert to Judaism.
Relax, Kerry lost and nothing will change that. Kerry and his supporters would have to turn everything on it's head. They are so demoralized by this election they have no will to do anything right now.
Wondered that myself but didn't want to ask for fear I'd jinx something........
Do we know about Iowa and New Mexico yet? I want President Bush to get all the EV's possible.
Praise GOD!
LLS
Kerry won. Relax.
Easy, ER.
Vigil-Giron said these ballots may or may not have an affect on the results.
Ha ha. :-)
Enjoy the victory, friend.
If there was a snowball's chance in hell Kerry could pull a rabbit out of his hat....we'd still be counting.
I think a few of us have post traumatic stress disorder, but, we're gonna be okay. Group hug. LOL.
What? And derail sHrillary's campaign?
Exactly.
LOL.. thanks for understanding.
I do have a touch of PTSD, LOL.
In some theoretical world where the provisionals were all valid and nearly all went to Kerry (therefore putting him over the top), Kerry would indeed become the president. Network calls and candidate concessions are meaningless. Nothing is official until the secretaries of state certify all 50 (+1) elections. That is what determines which group of electors in each state gets to vote.
That depends:
1. Are you a liberal? Kill yourself immediately, you lost.
2. Are you a "true" conservative of the LP/CP mold? Refer to #1.
3. Are you an American? Yes, we won.
You're in the thick of it there, in Ohio. You have valid reasons for stressin'! But it's going to be okay, hon.
So everyone keeps telling me, LOL.
We fought hard here. It's easy to feel a fragile grasp!
I'm trying to calm down, I really am, LOL!
I think you enjoyed pooping on our parade, now, didn't you?
