He is the leader of the GOP and a Specter chairmanship doesn't happen without his approval.

Are you saying the Executive Branch now controls the Legislative Branch?.... He may make some suggestions behind the scenes but that is about the limit of his authority, imo. The Senators will covet their power is my guess.

Kyl's ok by me, too. Course, Bush may have a word or two to say about this. (or maybe Carl Rove!) <>g<>

Composition.

Party leaders generally determine the size of committees and the ratio of majority to minority members on each of them.

Each party is primarily responsible for choosing its committee leaders and assigning its Members to committees, and, once assigned to a particular committee, a Member often makes a career there.

Looks like the "poll" was straw and the decisions were in place.

I would have preferred commentary on each of the Committee members and more input.

But then I am a minority of less than one.

Already posted here.

Just kidding, please don't zot me ;)

Grassley gets my vote. I'd love to see him switch over to Judiciary, and I'll tell him so next time I see him.

Thanks Jim for giving us such a wonderful place to discuss these things.

Senator Specter is supposed to be on Face the Nation on Sunday. I don't trust him.. I think he is going to make the rounds on the Sunday talk shows to try to smooth things over.

If you read the letter that he wrote that is on another thread, you will see how liberal he is. I haven't paid enough attention to how he has voted to grade him on how conservative fiscally he is, but he is pro pro pro-choice.

We need to communicate VERY strongly with our Senators (e-amil them every day) and leave them know in VERY certain terms that hell will be paid during their re-election campaigns if they vote for assw*pe Spector.

Anyone who helped 'bork' Bork and later quotes 'Scottish Law' to justify his refusal to penalize Clinton after impeachment, doesn't even belong on the Judiciary committee.

The Jarhead would have loved it! (He and Jean are probably having a good laugh over the whole thing right now.)

Keep im mind that Grassley doesn't want the chair, although he is next in line. That's why Spectre is being considered

Why does Grassley he not want it? I am puzzled.... Then again Cornyn is the man....

Senator Sessions really does a great job on the committee.
He doesn't let the "RATS" get away with too much. Grassley
may be too easy going.

KYL,

I think Grassley is far too waffly and wimpy in the current context.

We need a man of backbone who'll stand up for the Constitution and our foundational values with a stiff spine; persistence, resiliency etc.

imho.
