Our elected officials take an oath to protect the sovereignty of this nation. So far, I don't see very many of them even coming close to doing so.

Bush is a wimp.

Still hurting from that Kerry loss, eh? I suggest you try Valium.

There are also bond measures

Illegals can buy bonds. Who's stopping them?

What would be the purpose of setting up a whole new system and not holding people to their promises?

Even assuming the best of intentions, President Bush won't be around when those work visas expire anyway. Politicians of all strips often oversell their programs. President Bush wants a painless way to legalize illegal aliens. Promising enforcement he'll never have to undertake isn't that difficult.

To me, it seems to give more force to a program; smoke them out and then watch them. If they want to earn their way here, fine; if not, let them go back with the rest of them.

But they haven't earned their way here, nor would legalization change that. The Tancredo proposal, on the other hand, would give them a chance to apply through the proper channels.

Change that aspect of the Bush proposal and get Tancredo on board. This thing will sail through Congress.

And having the military defend our borders during a war would be unconstitutional how?

I notice you ignore hospitals

If there was a guest worker program, then they would pay into a health care program. So then I take it you are for a guest worker program then?

If you think that employers are contributing to SS, Medicare and FICA on illegals you certainly need to read more on the illegal immigration problem. That money is going into the pockets of the employer.

Or one could posit the President is embarking on a path that divides him from between 60-80% of the public. Not the best way to keep the Republican juggernaut keep rolling ahead.

By giving these invaders legal status with the guest worker program, is he not granting them amnesty by pardoning their lawlessness by endering this country illegally?

America cannot not afford these people. Plain and simple.

They are literally choking off large regions of our country, the social and economic, fraud, crime impacts are epic.

WTF is really going on? We are suppose to be the smartest, most advanced country on earth, yet we are passing out play money and winking and nodding at this titanic, never ending conga line of illiterate, non skilled, non-English speaking, ignorant millions pouring into our country.

This is almost laughable!

No, your recollection is wrong.

Yes, I'm sure there are many illegals buying bonds with their sub minimum wage jobs. They also have healthy IRA accounts, keep their car insurance current and have health insurance other than the local emergency room.

No, I am for deporting them. We have 5.5% unemployment, 2 million folks in jail and how many teens looking to start their first jobs and learn the basics of the job market? Until there is no American looking for a job, importing the Third World to depress wages does nothing to help America.

Reagan admitted that amnesty for illegals was his worst decision. BTW, Simpson-Mazzoli was to be the last amnesty - ever. I guess that the politicians of both parties lied, as usual.
