Typical Mo Dowd. The verbal equivalent of the Oliphant cartoon.

Ahh the charmed life of Mo Dowd. Going to the theater, gallavanting with the rich and famous, publishing her crackpot theories.
And yet she's still an embittered, nasty person. Sad.

"Not only are the Bush officials who failed to protect the country and misled us into war not losing their jobs. They're getting promoted. "
Maureen, two points.
One, they have protected the nation, and they did not mislead anyone.
Two, there is not a damned thing you can do about them getting promoted.

(1) The President of the USA is not a king. Miss Dowd seems to have missed the whole point of the War of Independence. I'm not surprised.
(2) The role of the Cabinet is to implement policy.
The role of courtiers was to use their skills in fencing, conversation, musicianship, etc. to get noticed by the monarch so the monarch would take them into his confidence and arrange a good marriage or a land grant for them.

Does she have an original thought in her head? She's always a week behind the conventional wisdom.

"Now, in the 21st-century reign of King George II, flattery is mandatory, dissent is forbidden, and erring without admitting error is the best way to get ahead. President Bush is purging the naysayers who tried to temper crusted-nut-bar Dick Cheney and the neocon crazies on Iraq. Personal contempt and hatred seem to garner you a good salary at the NYT. Not necessary to think, explain or otherwise use any form of inductive reasoning. Just spend your time besmirching the people you either dislike or hate.

Dowd gave up on logical argument a long time ago; it wasn't something she did very well. Now she relies on what she thinks are clever witticisms, intertwined with falsehoods.
