Ellen (DeGeneres) Hooks Up Military With Cruises

LOS ANGELES - For relatives and friends of U.S. troops serving in Iraq, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" was the place to be. Studio audience members, all with a military connection, were surprised with the gift of a free cruise at a taping Tuesday. The episode of the syndicated talk show, with guest Tom Hanks, aired Wednesday.

A total of 250 seven-day cruises for four, along with taxes and fees, were given in appreciation of troops deployed from three California bases: Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Camp Pendleton and Fort Irwin.

Celebrity Cruises is providing the vacations, available at any time to allow for troops overseas to take part on their return, according to a spokeswoman for the show.

DeGeneres also joined with the USO to send more than 5,000 care packages to the audience's relatives and friends in Iraq. The episode will be repeated on Thanksgiving on the Armed Forces Network.

I hate these webforms, but this is the only way to contact Celebrity Cruises that I could find.

so the degenerate one is trying to look somewhat --- what? Respectable? Trash is still trash if your name is ellen or you call yourself 'madonna' you are not worth the pain in the eyes from weatching.

After this past year of nastiness from the majority of H'weirdos that fall into this queer's category plus the war on terrorism has been ongoing since 911, just where in the hell has the H'weirdos been with all their megabucks--supporting their man sKerry. So this "generous gesture" from queer central isn't out of the goodness of her heart.

I always thought she was funny. Don't give a damn whether about her personal life. She just did a FINE thing. What does her sexual proclivities have to do with it??

Agree, up to a point-It bothered me that once she came out, it seemed that was the theme of every show thereafter, and I drifted away.

I don't care what someone does with someone else, as long as I do not have to listen to them brag about it everytime I see them. *I* do not bore Gays with bedroom Olympics stories and expect the same reasonable courtesy.

Did you just learn "queer" today? You use it like a high schooler.

I wouldn't expect you to know gratitude, in any case.

Agree. I think she's funny and I like her style of humor. Even though I don't watch much of her, she hasn't seemed overly political from what I've seen since the whole controversy over her coming out on her sitcom (although I did see her wearing a "Vote or Die" shirt shortly before the election while I was flipping channels, I'm not sure if she made any overt statement), and so she's remained watchable unlike many of her Hollywood comrades.

I did catch a bit of her show today with Tom Hanks doing tributes for the troops. Good for her.

She may be a lesbian but she doesn't seem to hate men.

But she has this sad demeanor about her......

Goooo Ellen! The lady is very funny and I appreciate her doing something special for the troops. Kudos for all who join the USO in making our troops' life easier.

My wife watches her show every day. She hardly ever brings up the gay issue and she never gets political. Who knows if this was her idea or not, but she could have said no. I have to assume she was a Kerry supporter, but even is she was she certainly never "stumped" for him like so many of the other people in Hollywood.

One other thing to remember here folks - it is an absolute waste of time to hate everyone who may have voted for Kerry. Not sure what the exact figures are, but let's be conservative and say 20% of the troops fighting in Iraq voted for him. Are we going to hate them too? think about it.

It doesn't hurt to show appreciation when good deeds are done, regardless of who does them. In fact, I think it's one of the things that makes us so much better than the other side.

" Kudos to Ellen, and Tom Hanks, who I have always seen as a class act."

Agreed.
I bet most people don't know that Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Steven Ambrose were heavily involved in the creation of the recently opened National D Day Museum in New Orleans .
It's an awesome tribute to the men of Utah and Omaha Beach and " the boys of Pointe du Hoc " and a definite must visit, ( right off the French Quarter ) when one goes to New Orleans.
Hollywood would be better off if they had more people like Hanks and Spielberg and less like Michael Moore , Madonna and Sean Penn.

I think Ellen is a genuinely nice person-unlike Rosie O'Donnell. This was a very nice gesture. Atleast she supports the troops.

Good for her. I think she's hilarious when she stays off the gay schtick. There are all sorts of ways a celebrity can get publicity for giving stuff away, especially around the holidays - I think this was a really neat gesture.

If it wasn't for her sexual perversions, nobody would know who she is.
Uh, she was famous before she "came out". Fortunately most folks are open-minded enough that her sexual preferences didn't overshadow appreciation for her talent.

It's amazing to me that a no talent like ellen is still in the news.If she were not a lesbian she would have long ago faded into obscurity..
Save the trolling for elsewhere, please, and if those are really your thoughts, save those, too. You attempt to give FReepers a bad name.

The woman is not funny at all. If it wasn't for her sexual perversions, nobody would know who she is.

Foolish, misguided remarks!

She is a very, very funny girl!
