Armed Man Steals Red Salvation Army Kettle From Supermarket Volunteer
AP ^ | November 27, 2004

A gun-wielding robber swiped a red Salvation Army kettle from a collector in front of a supermarket, police said.

Volunteer Jerlene Howard said she was ringing her bell to solicit donations from shoppers Friday night when a man wearing a scarf over his face got out of a car and demanded the kettle. He "had a gun and he told me not to say anything," she said.

The man then got back into the car, which was driven by an accomplice, police said. Howard was not injured.

Howard said her kettle was "kind of heavy," but she didn't know how much money was inside. She has collected up to $135 a day in the past.

The Salvation Army's annual Red Kettle fund-raising drive helps buy food for the homeless and toys for poor children.

He wouldn't have done it unless he were needy. Cutting out the middle man is what it is all about. Merry Christmas, Pot Man

Some people want to go straight to Hell and they don't want to stand in any lines.

A couple of days ago there was a story about a guy in Florida who stole the kettle from a blnd bell-ringer. I guess this will be the rage this year. They should chain the kettles to the stand or the little house or even the bell- ringer.

Not to the bell ringer. Someone who would steal from the poor would have no problem hurting the bell ringer.

Perhaps the Salvation Army should add volunteer off-duty police officers to their bell-ringing ranks.

Wonder why he was armed. In memory of Arte Johnson, afraid of being hit over the head with the kettle, do you suppose?

BWAHAHAHA!!!...That's a keeper! Is it yours, or from a movie? Reminds me of "You just gonna stand there whistlin' Dixie or ya gonna pull yer guns?".
