In interesting times the most simple explanation to me is terrorism. I hope more evidence comes along to prove otherwise.

No. I used to do private equity deals and used American National Bank's trust department for escrow accounts.

Ah. I'm on the IT side of the bank, technically ABN, but I deal with quite a few of the business people directly because of my role within the IT Organization. We had a large project going with the Trust Dept. folks, which at the moment I'm guessing is going to be on hold for awhile now.

Who wouldn't ignore a "stay put" order after what happened on 9-11?

That's such a good point, I swear I don't know what I'd do.

...saw the whole roof explode and get lifted about 10 ft. in the air...

Oh my goodness! I didn't see anything quite that amazing. I remember driving by on my way to work on 53 and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Then it was still burning on my way home.

It was incredible how quickly it was cleaned up though. I think it was the Los Angeles Salvage Company or something like that who did it.

That link just plays an add...and then come up with "bad link". Must you have Media player 9 to view this? I refuse to put it on my system.

Yes, I knew that sprinklers had some ability within a large building, but in a major fire, I can not imagine them doing a lot, without pumper trucks.
I have had space in small buildings where sprinklers had no
pumps.

The question was if the building had sprinklers at all.

If trucks were hooking to standpipes, there would certainly be sprinklers, no?

It sure was. My family went to visit my grandma shortly after that and I remember when we came back into town and right before we exited at NW Hwy looking over and seeing NOTHING left. It was quite a shocking site.

Hey Keith, LTNS. How ya been?

I'm watching my current employer's difficulties on TV at the moment.

Chicago FD just sent out a "mayday" call, more equipment coming in. Apparently, water pressure on 31 isn't up to snuff, they're expecting 31 to go now, and 32 is apparently going to be the "breakwall" for the fire.

This isn't over by a longshot. Looks like a few more floors are going to burn before they get this under control.

WOW, look at those flames. They look not so paper-ery...I mean they look like the flames from 9-11 with a fuel source. what would be burning like that inside the building?

The Media is wrong, a mayday wasn't called, the Dispatcher/Commander asked the firefighter if he wanted to call mayday, he responded no, I just wanted to make sure you got the message,

Although, 10 units were dispathced 20 mins ago

They were sending trucks back to station or their replacement stations at about 9:30, and they have dropped that effort to bring them back down town

"If trucks were hooking to standpipes, there would certainly be sprinklers, no?"

A sprinkler system is a separate system from the standpipe system. Even a building without a sprinkler system must have a standpipe.

The standpipe runs up the stairwells and has outlets for fire hose connections. It is the way to get water under pressure to upper floors for firefighting.

My daughter (a CPA for Peregrine Financial) works in the building across the street from the bank. She moved to a restaurant on the lowest floor. However, the people in the restaurant have been told to stay where they are because of falling debris...she was told by the Fire Dept. that she may be there most of the night. The 30th floor now has significant fire. Some smoke is coming from the 28th floor.

I'm a meteorologist, by the way. The wind in Chicago is southeast, blowing thick smoke over the city. It's lucky the temperature is above freezing (and should stay that way until tomorrow night). Winds will get considerably stronger in the morning, with gusts 30-35 during the day.
