A convicted sex offender broke into a San Francisco home in the Ingleside district and raped a 9-year-old girl in her bedroom in an hourlong attack that ended when the girl's mother walked into the room, San Francisco police said.

The man, police say, fled on foot and was chased by the girl's father, who at one point struck him with a 2-by-4. The man continued fleeing through several backyards and was captured by police and identified as Roberto Gamero, 36, of San Francisco, police said.

"It's a parent's worst nightmare,'' said San Francisco police Deputy Chief Morris Tabak of Sunday's attack. "It's pretty horrific. All of us who are parents, it sends chills up your spine.''

Gamero, a prior sex offender who was on probation for an earlier domestic violence case in San Mateo County, . . .

To bad Dad only had a 2*4. He should have had a 12 gauge, problem solved.

He'll get his comeuppance in prison. Convicts just love child molesters. </sarcasm>

It is a parents worst nightmare. That's why I have a 45 pound Rhodesian Ridgeback, soon to be an 80 pound Rhodesian Ridgeback that sleeps in my daughters room.

I tried googling for "Roberto Gamero" but unfortunately I didn't find anything I can understand. All the hits are in a different language :(

I think SF has more stringent gun laws than Boston.

Could he even have a gun in his home?

I suppose the girl's father had nothing other than a 2x4.

I wonder how the law addresses using something more powerful than that in those circumstances. I would guess that the law would hold that that would be about all he could do under the law...if even that. He (the father) would be viewed as the aggressor.

In the U.K. he probably would have been crucified for using the 2x4.

"It's a parent's worst nightmare,''

nightmare? yes. worst? no. Worst is having a son/daughter murder another son/daughter.

sorry to nit-pick, but it (above statement) is a pet-peeve of mine

Kill him, right now

This needs a longer discussion, but you're right.

Human predators are easily identified, incurable, and time-delimited incarceration does not protect their future victims (nor the non-predators who share the prisons with them).

As soon as a human predator is identified, he should be killed (or isolated).
