There are 4 years until the next election. Morris will change his tune at least 1,400 times between now and then
What difference does it make in 2008 who the candidate is? for either party?
The election in 2004 was not won because G.W. Bush was the candidate as much as it was the Republican Party representing the centrist moderate voters. If we forget that, then the Dim's will regain control. If we find that it was true then W takes that with him at term end anyway.
If the Dim's can convince the swing voter that they have something better then they will regain control. And do it with whatever they can find or promise to appease them with.
I continue to state that no election in our history has ever been won because of extreme left or right support, but the man in the middle shifting to the call of the piper.
We must continue to represent the centrist voter or fall beside the way again. j
In my state, Hillary's only shot is to repeat Kerry's performance (and fraud) with turnout in the minority areas(Detroit) and culturally lib areas like SE Oakland County, Washtenaw County, and East Lansing. Detroit lost at least 50,000 people since 2000. It may drop from 925,000 to under 900,000 in 08. It's the most democrat big city in the country. The GOP areas are also increasing population faster than dem areas. She'll also need a bad economy here.
She won't have the dem advantage in 08 of "anyone but Bush". Especially if the Republican is a governor.
If it is true, that the left wing kooks are taking over the Democrat party, the chances of any Republican winning goes up.
Right now a lot of people say no pro abortion Republican can get the nomination. I don't know what Dr. Rice's position is on that issue. Nevertheless, her chances will depend upon the outcome in Iraq since her involvement is rather deep.
He signed CPLS in New Mexico.
Wonder if there would be any catfights during the Presidential Elections? Promises to be entertaining. I will be able to vote then. I'd vote for Condi anyday.
If Free Republic were a religious forum instead of a political one, perhaps that would make sense. But even as a conservative forum, we think that stuff from Maureen Dowd is often worthy of derision discussion.
What would be worthy of a Taliban comparison is the banning of any articles that don't agree with our political or religious points of view.
Morris is right to portray Hillary as a formidable opponent. Anyone who smugly thinks she cannot win is kidding himself.
He is wrong to say she's unbeatable except by a black
woman. Morris believes the Republican party is doomed
in the long run unless it radically cuts into the Democratic advantage among women and minorities. While
these are certainly concerns to take seriously, Morris overstates their severity every time he discusses them.
Condi is also overestimated as a potential candidate. She has absolutely zero experience in elective office and in running for elective office. The only way to win the presidency under such a handicap is to 1) have an utterly unelectable opponent; or 2) to have the almost unique stature that General Eisenhower had after WW II. In addition, blacks will not go for her in big numbers because they do not, and will not, go for Republicans in big numbers.
I feel real confident now about our chances in '08.
Exactly right my FRiend. I'll never entirely trust Dick Morris, because he did work for the klintoons. But through the campaign, he did say some things that had merit.
He can also be very useful, because as he said about his last book on the klintoons, he "knows where the bones are buried".
Dicks a moron....
What you said...
Hillary is an utterly unelectable national candidate, but I don't think Condi will run for the Presidency in 2008, so it's a moot discussion except for the fact that Morris is pushing it.
> And go down in history.
After Monica, you're not allowed to use that phrase anymore
when discussing female White House personnel.
He's our biggest threat in my opinion. I wonder if the new Democrat move away from the East coast toward the West reflects any effort by party professionals to shift some weight towards Richardson.
