How To Speed Up Firefox (Helpful Vanity)

Posted on 12/12/2004 12:45:50 PM PST by KoRn

Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

Stupid question but I have DSL. This would work for DSL right? I don't know what the difference between Broadband and DSL is, or if one is an offshoot of the other. Many thanks.

Yes, this one's for you! High speed DSL is considered Broadband.

Ditto the font size.
I have an issue with T/Bird concerning font size also.
If I hit 'reply' and type the fonts are miniscule. I can hit ctrl+ to increase it but I can't get it to default.
Another issue I have is the ad. window when you bring up 'Write'.
The window doesn't include the scroll down arrow. I have to drag the right margin over to get it. A pain in the a$$.

On my wife's new Dell, if the web pages loaded any faster the program would have to be mindreading.

Has anyone had any issues with FrontPage and Firefox?

I have started having a sysems access violation error in FrontPage after I created a link to a website. I am now wondering if it has anything to do with Firefox.

Any suggestions?

I haven't tried Frontpage with Firefox. If there are any problems I would assume that there's something proprietary going on. That's just an assumption based on the typical M$ tradition of non compatibility with non M$ products.

Works for cable too....

At least it seems faster. Maybe it's just the Miller Genuine Drafts, but it seems faster... LOL!

"Sheesh Bill Gates makes my life miserable again!"

I was only assuming, that may not be the problem.

I don't care much for FrontPage myself. You may want to check out Macromedia DreamWeaver, it's FAR better than FrontPage. It's a little more advanced, and takes some learning to get into it, but after the learning curve you will be smokin'.

Web development with FrontPage is like trying to win the Daytona 500 with a station wagon lol
