Statement from Dino Rossi

Bellevue, WA – Today Dino Rossi issued the following statement:

“This is supposed to be the season for Christmas and Hanukkah, not campaigns, but this year, unfortunately, we don’t yet have a governor-elect.

“Like many people across Washington, I’m very concerned about the integrity of this election process, and I’m also very concerned that not all votes are being treated equally.

“Earlier this week, I asked the Supreme Court not to change the rules of the recount. On Tuesday, however, the Supreme Court did change the recount rules, and allowed previously rejected ballots to be reconsidered.

“Many hundreds of previously rejected ballots in King County were counted, but there are hundreds more of wrongfully rejected ballots that remain uncounted. We have affidavits so far from 300 legal voters across Washington whose ballots were wrongfully rejected. The rules were changed for a select group of ballots in King County, but not for many other ballots all across the state. That is wrong. If the rules can be changed for a select group of voters in King County, then the new rules should apply to everyone, equally.

“Under the new rules established by the Supreme Court, if your vote was wrongfully thrown out through no fault of your own, your vote should be counted. Whether your signature was mistakenly challenged or whether you’re a member of the military who didn’t receive your ballot on time, your vote should count. Anything else is undemocratic.

“To make sure that every wrongfully disenfranchised voter has the opportunity to have his or her vote counted, we are going to take some time to follow up with county canvassing boards across Washington and ask those boards to reconsider wrongfully rejected ballots.

“I know many Washingtonians are hoping this will end soon, but I’m also sure that people across this state want a clean election and a legitimate governor-elect. At this point, we have neither.

“Finally, Terry and my children and I want to wish everyone a happy holiday season, and I again want to thank the people of Washington for their kind-hearted support.”

If I NEVER hear the word "disenfranchised" again...it will be TOO soon. It seems to be nothing more than a code word for the Rats to justify their cheating. Puke.

Well said and needing to be said.

It's a privilege to be on the front lines, getting bloodied up in our different ways, and continuing to press on to smash the cheats.

Dino will make a great governor.

We would suffocate under a Gregoireship. It would be open season on pubbies, and all our rights. Vote fraud would take on a new meaning, a new dimension, and become entrenched in state law.

Dino must be carried forward to the governor's office on the shoulders of the voters and all the legal and Constitutional muscle available.

A smart person said on radio today, that if Gregoire gets in, the Democrats will entrench themselves before the new "top two" election law sets in. If they do, we might never have a chance to defeat that terrible thing - or get into office. Now is the time for the fight, and the only way we lose is to cower and walk away from it.

Democrats think that some votes are more equal then others. Screw that! Its the same crap they tried to pull in florida. Treat democrat counties different then everyone else. Rossi is right. Treat ALL counties the same. It was wrong to change the rules after the fact. But if thats what must be then ALL counties must be treated the same.

Help is on the way, but it would be beneficial if the Rossi campaign knew how to return a phone call. I have enough evidence to put Gregoire in prison, but if the GOP can't take the time to look at it, it will be a bit harder to do, but I will get the job done.

Last night on C-Span, I caught a rerun of the hearing at the Washington Supreme Court on allowing the latest round of votes in King COunty. There were two women justices whose line of questioning and attitudes toward the GOP attorney were transparent in their partisanship. They both seemed to have come directly to the courtroom from their NOW Chapter meeting. It was really rather appalling. I do hope you get that judiciary cleaned up.

I could not agree more. Now is the time to make fools out of [vote] diviners, to expose the frauds and cheats and clean house.

I'm really hoping for some prosecutions ... and while I'm on the Wish List, I'd really like to see McDermott, Cantwell and Murray find other employment.

The proverb goes: "Those that sow in tears shall reap in joy." Now that frequently lachrymose Paul Berendt wallows in rapture over the (perhaps temporary) success of his machinations, let the rest of us remember that election workers "enhancing the vote" turned the tide in this election.

The image below is of a so-called "vote" that was recorded for Gregoire. Note that none of the bubbles on this ballot were filled in. (Thanks to Mac at Pull on Superman's Cape, who provided the image, observing that a worker carrying an uncapped felt pen atop a blank ballot could easily create this "vote.")

The bubbles are barely visible just to the left of the names and have no marks in them. The black marks down the left side already exist on the absentee ballot. I'm guessing that they are used to help line up the ballot in the reading machine. The extra black mark next to the pre-printed black marks is just a stray probably created by a slip of the hand when holding a pen. Absolutely RIDICULOUS to call that a vote!Posted by: Mark on December 23, 2004 10:13 AM

The black series of marks are edge borders, guides for the machines. If you look closely you can see ovals beside the candidate names. None are darkened. This was not a real vote. Some worker, I suspect, added the stray mark to the edge of the ballot. If they didn't, if a voter actually made that mark, there's no fair way to determine intent, and the ballot should be discarded. It's too odd that there are no marked ovals anywhere on the page, and wouldn't someone so confused as to what to do end up circling the name? Further, should someone so confused be considered capable of voting?

(Now I've done it, I've implied that mental fitness--knowing how to fill in an oval for example--should be a polling test.)Posted by: Bleeding heart conservative on December 23, 2004 10:15 AM

Time for several Churchill Quotes:

* In War: Resolution. In Defeat: Defiance. In Victory: Magnanimity. In Peace: Goodwill.

* Kites rise highest against the wind - not with it.

* Never give in! Never give in! Never, never, never, never - in nothing great or small, large or petty. Never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense.

* Never, never, never, never give up.
