A right-winger attacks global warming (Left-winger attacks right-winger who attacked global warming)
Pittsburgh live ^ | 1/2/05 | Wayne Madsen

Michael Crichton's new novel, "State of Fear," not only unfairly bashes the global environmental movement but represents yet another example of how multinational corporations and their political allies are invading the popular culture to advance fanatic and lunatic right-wing ideas and agendas.

The book demonizes scientists who argue that the world is heading toward cataclysmic weather change unless something is done about the spewing forth of greenhouse gases into Earth's atmosphere.

Crichton develops a story line that has environmentalists and scientists creating weather-making doomsday machines that wreak havoc on the planet.

Killer hurricanes, towering tidal waves and destructive lightning storms are all meant to prove the scientists' point about the deadly effects of global warming. The environmentalists are the villains. The corporate shills who have been paid big bucks to debunk the global warming community are the good guys. According to Crichton, global warming is a myth.

In today's world of increasing corporate control of almost every facet of our public and private lives, Crichton's screed against the environmental movement should come as no great surprise.

In the excerpted portion of the column the columnist concludes that Robert Murdoch runs the whole world (I assume with Karl Rove's).

The very idea that Michael Crichton is a right winger is idiocy. The fact that in this case his devotion to real science coincides with the view of corporate America is simply does not mean that he is their paid shill.

Fact is that the reason the left is so rabid over the entire "Green" issue is that it is just another way to centralize government power and control over industry...

If they were TRULY worried about being "Green," they'd be fighting against China for their pollution, the Middle East over theirs, and much of the THird World because of their tremendous amounts of environmental damage and pollution...

See PROOF that it's all about pushing another form of COMMUNISM

One of the more entertaining novels I've read about environment wackos was Tom Clancy's "Rainbow Six". I'll have to keep a lookout at the library for Crichton's book.

It never ceases to amaze me how hysterical the Left becomes when confronted by the fact that there is any alternative whatsoever to their propaganda. Ad Hominem/name-calling is always the first weapon of choice.

[Mental note: Make a point of buying every Crichton book, seeing every movie.]

As long as the truth you are purporting is that although the climate is changing, for which there is ample evidence, humans are not the cause.

If you claim nothing is going on, it looks like your head is in the sand and you are as bad as the sky is falling people.

You have some evidence that the Earth is warming?

Other than the increase in "heat islands" caused by urbanization there is simply no evidence that the Earth is warming. Again and again, studies come out proclaiming it is so, the media runs with the story, and then the study is promptly shown to be badly flawed.

Here is just one example:

Chriton says quote,

And if we allow science to become politicized, then we are lost. We will enter the Internet version of the dark ages, an era of shifting fears and wild prejudices, transmitted to people who don't know any better. That's not a good future for the human race. That's our past. So it's time to abandon the religion of environmentalism, and return to the science of environmentalism, and base our public policy decisions firmly on that.

That's about the most cogent statement I've read about environmentalism.

As I was reading this post, I also thought about Rainbow Six. How an environmentalists group was planning to kill off most of the world's population to 'SAVE THE WORLD' from people. We should do the same as the book does, kill off the environmentalists. They are taking up too much of the good air in the world.

oh wonderful

This Wayne Madsen is another babbling idiot that screeches crap that only a DUmmie would believe.

When will our newspapers actually hire people that are capable of critical thinking and objective observation?

I guess the real question is when will our universities start hiring professors that are capable of critical thinking and objective observation?

LOL, I'm just finishing reading the novel, a reluctant Christmas gift from my left leaning mom. Chrichton should tack this guys column on as addendum, it just goes to show that reality global warmers are living in requires much more suspension of disbelief that your average sci-fi novel.

Unlike the "silly science" of Crichton, a group of 300 scientists recently concluded that the Arctic is warming much more rapidly than previously known.

And I suppose "The Day After Tomorrow" is based on sound science.

This guy is really out there. It's hard to believe the level of hateful, venomous rant that this guy spewed out over a movie. It's a movie! Who cares you weaselly little scum! What is it that scares this guy so much about one movie that has a message he doesn't agree with? Perhaps he's afraid the public will start demanding REAL scientific studies on the issue of "global warming".

The Earth IS getting warmer right now. It's done it in the past and I'm sure it will do it in the future. These global cycles of warming and cooling are nothing new. It's been well documented.

Also, someone should tell this idiot that CO2 is plant food!
