1. I am really tired of coddling the prisoners, who are CRIMINALS, that's why they are in prison.

2. I find it outrageous, that they are changing the food for ALL prisoners, to avoid offending Muslim prisoners.

If Muslim prisoners get served something their religion doesn't allow them to eat, they can just leave that on the plate and skip that meal.

2.....

Well, it is a couple thousand pounds of food that the prison doesn't need to buy anymore.

Exactly. Don't commit a frickin' crime and you won't have to violate religious beliefs.

I'm a Jew and don't eat pork, among other prohibited foods , but if I commited a crime, I would take the food or leave it. The majority of the people DO eat pork and I respect that.

Why do prisoners have any rights? Aren't they in prison because they violated someone else's.

Muslim prisoners.

The Nation of Islam crowd, mostly. Prisons are their best recruiting locales.

Lets be realistic here...the sheriff or warden usually has an allowance of $10 a day or less to feed prisoners (in most states). No prisoner is going to get much of a meal anyway. Sheriff Joe out in Phoenix gives everyone balony sandwiches for lunch and most dinners involve cheap noodle dishes. The experts can talk about calorie intakes and better eating...but its purely by accident. If you go into a prison for five years and weigh 250 lbs...you will come out in five years with weight loss...face it...you'll get tired of the food and start to lose weight week by week easily.

I think Muslims in prison should be given pork at every meal, they should also be given pigskin pants ,shirts and slippers, their cells should be searched with trained pigs
looking for contraband.

Out in the free, real world, if you go to a banquet, the options may be such, that don't fit in with someone's religious, or other dietary restrictions. You don't expect them to find the small common set that everyone eats, you just skip the part of the dish you can't eat, or don't eat.

Why should they go out of their way to make EVERYONE eat food suitable for Muslims.

It's not like they are serving only pork, three meals a day in prison.

Do you know how much food can be bought for $10/day?!

You can buy fresh chicken for $0.60/lb.

Also, as some of us have been saying, people don't go to prison to get great meals, they go in for punishment. In the olden days in Europe, prisoners got dark bread and water once a day.

Exactly.

Maybe there are prisoners on the Atkin's diet...We better ban bread too / sarcasm

I sure don't expect the world to accomodate to my diet. There's always *something* for me to eat.

I'm sure Michael Newdow will sue to stop this, as it means the government has established an official religion - Islam. Right?

Yes. NOL is made up of a bunch of angry, anti-Americans
who believe they have a right to commit crimes since everyone else is so "oppressive" to them. What stinkin' fricken' joke.

I can't stand Farrahkahn (I don't know if I spelled it right, and I don't care either). I was channel surfing during a particular insomniatic mood one night and he was on with a bunch of NOL and spewing so much hate against white people, it wasn't funny.

Where the hell is the F.B.I. and other organization looking into this?

I'd give them spam only. ONLY. Cheap, and it'll end up killing anyone off who has to live on it for more than a few years anyway, thereby clearing out the prisons.

"You can buy fresh chicken for $0.60/lb."

"In Poland, maybe."

Also in Los Angeles, CA at Ralphs Supermarkets, on sale.

They just had a sale, or maybe it's still going on. They have it frequently. Then there are also places like Costco, where you have low prices all the time.

If someone wants to, they can eat very nutritiously, and full meals, very inexpensively. Just don't buy prepared food, prepare your own.

Um... they're talking about JAILS, not prisons. "Innocent until proven guilty" and all that... and... in America, we try to accommodate people's religious beliefs, even those accused of a crime. And a lot of contributers here raise a big stink (quite rightly) to the abuse of Christians in foreign jails, so... claiming we're a better, more civilized people... we can afford to walk the walk. Unless you're a pork producer, what's the beef?

I would not eat chicken if you paid me $6,000 per pound. Nasty stuff.

Would you eat dog meat if you were in a Korean jail awaiting your trial?
