Iran will give 'astonishing' response

IRAN will carry out an "astonishing" retaliation to any attack against the Islamic republic by Israel or the US, a top Revolutionary Guards commander was quoted as saying today.

"We will counter any stupid action by Israel and its master with firmness and in an astonishing way," Brigadier-General Mohammad-Ali Jafari was quoted as saying by the Shargh newspaper. The commander of the Revolutionary Guards' ground forces said Iran had the capacity to defeat any invader within months.

"We pushed the Baathist enemy from our country within one and a half years," he said, referring to the opening campaigns of the 1980-88 war with Iraq.

"With the experience and skills from that war and in the case of any invasion, the invaders will be defeated in less than one and a half months."

In recent days US officials have hardened their tone against the Islamic republic, which US President George W. Bush has already lumped into an "axis of evil".

Mr Bush said last Monday he could not rule out using force if Tehran failed to rein in its nuclear plans, and US Vice-President Dick Cheney said Iran was "right at the top of the list" of global trouble spots.

Mr Cheney also warned that Israel might launch a pre-emptive strike on its own to shut down Iran's nuclear program.

I would be tempted to agree with you but for one thing. The Japanese had 3,000 years of homogeneous, industrious culture rich in art, philosophy and honor. The Arab Muslims have 3-4,000 years of sand, camel dung and goat meat. I don't think the market is ready for the "JihadiMobile", no matter how many camelpower it sports.

Thats what Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Quwait, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Lybia said few weeks before the legendary Six Day War.

The hatred towards Israel that was seen in the Arab street before the Six Day War was amazing. The calls for the extermination of the Jews were a daily view in the Arab street.

Israel was also isolated in the international arena, Britain and France didnt accept for Israeli calls to help in the crisis and the event was interpreted by the Arab nations as a huge sign of weakness from Israel.

Israel was alone and the Israelis felt isolated ever since 1948.

As Natzer, the Egyptian president said: "Against Israel stand the force of 8 strongest armies in the Middle East, Israel will be crashed, the 19 years of their existence are finished".

Yet we all know how the small, isolated and weak Israel wiped out their forces in Six Days and embarrassed them forever.

Iran is no different.
