Yes. The old Monogram 1/72 B-36 model used to sell for about $15-$25, ten or fifteen years ago. It now retails for over $100. There is a 1/144 scale model of the same thing, costs $40.

I have built models for years. I no longer buy models from stores. First off, you can't find any military models at stores anymore. I guess they are not PC for some companies, Second, as you mentioned, the cost is outrageous.
I look for model shows in my area. At those shows there are always tons of vendors with plenty of kits to sell at more reasonable prices.
I hoped to get my young son involved with building models, but this article does not paint a bright picture for the industry to be around much longer. Sad!

These idots better remember that future VOTERS make these models. FUTURE VOTERS who will buy their stocks. future voters who will support their senators making/keeping the programs ALIVE.
Now if they don't exist , there will be no nostalgia to continue.
