STATE OF THE UNION -- 2005 [Live Thread]
2/2/05

Posted on 02/02/2005 3:43:44 PM PST by Timeout

The pre-spin: Bush will spend about 1/2 the speech on foreign policy, 1/2 on domestic, with heavy emphasis on Social Security reform. It's said he will provide a detailed tutorial on the SS system and its problems with a few details on his personal accounts proposal.

Laura's guests are said to be an Afghan voter and an Iraqi voter (too bad there's no Ukrainian wearing an orange hat!).

Should we start a drinking game on how many times the pool camera swings to Hillary? Hmmm. Probably not...it would likely hamper out typing ability.

Word on the blogs has it that the closing part of the speech is a hum-dinger. Set your VCR's.

Report here on outrageous MediaCrat spin before AND after the SOTU. Pictures and screen caps welcome.

I'm on the bus.

Damn right! When Powell was equivocating about the strategy, it was Rice who understood her boss' instinct that the entire struggle turned on Freedom versus Fascism.

This is about proclaiming liberty across the land. However, that point is so simple that it took two evangelical Christians a couple of nanoseconds to figure it out.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

A boy with a skateboard wants to grow up to be an ugly, lying politician? Hmm. Interesting.

Anybody that starts a speech with, "I was born....", is a loser in my opinion. Reid is an old fool.

I'm not sure I'd call this his best speech, but I bet it will be the one that produces the most results. The domestic side finally was a strong and impactful as the foreign policy side has been, and I think historians will point to this speech as when he reached his fullness in the office. One of the lines of argument has been that he was a strong foreign policy president, but a quiet domestic one. My guess is that there will be notable jump in his approval numbers, including on domestic issues, and be far more effective this term. A turn of the corner to a McKinley-esque era of GOP consolidation of gains and a solidification into a powerful majority.

Bottom line, I think this speech may be the most notable moment of what finally starts to break the deadlock. Doesn't matter a word what the Dem response says, it will look tiny now.

You're an embarrassment to this forum, Joe.

I noted you didn't disagree or dispute my post. This is what brutal truth gets you here.

Harry Reid saying that a six year old boy, Devon, said when he grows up, he wants to be just like Reid. Then Reid refers to Devon dreaming big!

"NBC had a report by Jim Mik.... saying there's no clear plan for the soldiers return... blah ... blah..."

That was surely one of the most disgusting things I've ever heard on the MSM. He was shouting like some sort of demoralizing cheerleader of defeat.

Oh bless her heart- now I am going to bawl.

lawgirl, I lost it a few times there at the end. Mrs. Bush was still crying at the end of the speech, at least from what I could see.

Uh oh...Peligroso and Dusty Harry are on...think I'll switch to Animal Planet.

Bless your heart, for your love for this nation, and for this President. As you can see, and I know that you know, you're not alone.
