This from an article written by AP and published in the San Diego paper which left out describing the audience to which the General addressed his comments.

Of note to me was an arrogant aside:

Quote: The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Muslim civil liberties group, called on the Pentagon to discipline Mattis for the remarks.

"We do not need generals who treat the grim business of war as a sporting event," said the council's executive director, Nihad Awad. "These disturbing remarks are indicative of an apparent indifference to the value of human life."

How odd these people comment on an apparent indiffierence to the value of human life when their culture ignores that very ideal to the extreme.

Two faced gossips waiting behind every door in our world these days.

i don't think i should let any pansies meet my WW2 Vet uncle. he fought in the south pacific.... and , well.. i think he enjoyed it. lol

i wonder what the pc dopes think the Gen should say?
"well, girls. let's go fight.. try not to think about the bad thing you are doing. if you HAVE to kill the enemy, please don't feel good about it."

i'm sure the moral would be sky high..

I have been searching around about Major General Mattis and the writer Mr. Bennett who wrote the article for this topic.

Mr. Bennett has also written some other excellent articles on TechCentral (the address in the topic post), in case anyone was interested.

One write-up I saw on General Mattis was that he asked his troops not to wear sunglasses in Iraq so they could make good eye contact with the Iraqi people (less formidable I imagine).

Somehow I feel more secure knowing we have this kind of leader in our military! I also think of all the families who have "loaned" their loved ones to his keep. He seems to take that honor seriously.

There are plenty of Jerks over this situtation. General Mattis is not one of them.

Was WWII fun?

Two questions: "was WWII worth doing?" and "is doing things that are worth doing enjoyable?"

Well, "enjoyable" may be a little strong; but "worthwhile", certainly.

So the General's a yuld; at least he's a mensch, too.

You go into Afghanistan. You've got guys who slapped women around for five years because they didn't wear a veil. You know guys like that ain't got no manhood left anyway. So it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them."

We went to Afghanistan to get bin Laden and wipe out his poisonous regime. This remark is akin to saying, "let's go beat up a bunch of queens."

But I'm sure he's right -- it must be a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them.

I'll stick U.S. Marine Gen. Jim Mattis on this one.

You may want to read the article.

My brother was in Desert Storm in Bravo Company,Between November 1990 and January 1991, 4th Tank Battalion was mobilized in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm. Elements of the battalion were "in country" and combat ready within 32 days of activation. During the Gulf War mobilization, the 4th Tank Battalion, a United States Marine Corps Reserve unit in the 4th Marine Division, successfully transitioned from the M-60 to the M1-A1 Main Battle Tank in just 45 days. The battalion trained, shot and qualified, then deployed to the Gulf where it fought alongside its active Marine Corps counterparts. Indeed, one of its companies knocked out 35 of 36 Iraqi tanks in less than five minutes.

That was my brothers company. He has no problem with Gen. Mattis.

I don't think my brother is "nuts".

P.S.Here's another warrior I admire.
