Thirteen tonnes of fish on road
Thirteen tonnes of raw fish spilled on to a road after they burst from the back of a lorry as it drove uphill. The £80,000 of fish boxed in ice crates slipped off the articulated container on Spread Eagle Hill in Shaftesbury, Dorset, early on Tuesday morning.
A police spokesman said: "Apparently, fish were all over the road."
Nobody was injured in the incident. Dorset County Council's attempts to clear the road using a digger and lorry are being hampered by poor weather.
A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "It appears as the lorry started its ascent up the hill the load in the rear of the articulated container slipped backwards, probably on the wet floor, and the weight of the fish on the rear doors forced the doors open."
Just a fluke you say?
I've Haddock with these pic-less posts. I cod go on and blow my squid but it would sound pompano on my part.
.... and a nearby convention of Viking Kitties immediately descended upon the scene .. ;)
A few years ago a tanker truck of vegitable oil spilled on a freeway in the morning rush hour. It was dupped the Crisco Valdez.
Now, stop baiting him, or some mod is likely to hook your tail right out of here and you'll find yourself suspended. You don't want to fin-nish up that way, but the mods control the scales of justice around here. It's sink-er swim, ya know.
I clam what I clam. And that ain't no yellow-tailed, yellow-bellied unschooled can of sardines, Chum! I didn't just fall off the fishtruck, well, actually....
But I was about to say, I think you deserve a right hook, #14 treble gold, for makoing trouble, Sal, man.
Nah, actually I like you, I would never sardinething....
Best one I saw on the news...tanker full of Ky lube split open on the hwy...LOL
I can't get hooked right now, even though the temptation is a-lure-ing. I don't want to carp on you for pinging me at work, but I have to go teach a man to fish....I'll tuna in later to see what surfaces here....
"Fish" and "burst" should never be in the same sentence or headline.
Sushi-cide? Anyone have a lemon wedge? Anyone??
To The_Victor goes the spoiled fish?
The flight that I took to London last month was full of British teens returning from a school tour - a few of them had quite a laugh when the name "Poughkeepsie" flashed up on the moving map display...
Would Monsieur care to dance?
Sorry I had to cut bait earlier, but I'm just a little fish in a big pond at the office and I kinda felt gill-ty about it. It doesn't seem that there was much of a roe on this thread, which surprises me. As crabby as people can be around here, I'm surprised everyone clammed up on this...or maybe they just decided to go jump in a lake.
I'm glad to see you keeping up with the mainstream of current news. In the future, canoe continue to ping me to threads, like this? What the hake, you know I'd ping you...and Cod knows I'd rather you be my friend than my anemone.
Catch ya later...;-)
The British make fun of us for our unions, and union regulations do go a bit too far sometimes, but we very rarely have 13 tons of fish all over the road because the load wasn't secured properly. Not if it's a union operation. I couldn't believe the number of overturned lorries I saw in England, because the load had shifted.
Listen, I know you're just fishing for crawdadpliments, but I don't give a hydroelectric dam. You'll need to troll elsewhere. You might check out Shad, Rach, Meshech and Abalonego. I just can't take the time to horse around with you, Seabiscuit. I march to a different drumfish and sing "Caviar My Wayward Sunfish." I sing, because you can tune a piano but you can't tuna fish.
Even so, I remain a gentleman. I may not swallow every line you trot out hook, line and sinker--but at least I'd never Flipper you off......
LOL!!! Damn I can't decide who should win the pun-award :o)
"I can't decide who should win the pun-award :o)"
Does the prize happen to be five loaves and TWO FISHES?
