Michelle Malkin: The Wonkette-ization of Laura Bush
Michelle Malkin ^ | May 3, 2005 | Michelle Malkin

Posted on 05/03/2005 2:10:11 PM PDT by EveningStar

Most of Mrs. Bush's humor at the correspondents' dinner was just right: Edgy but not over the edge. But I think the stripper and horse jokes were totally beneath her.

Just put it to the other-shoe test: If it were Teresa Heinz Kerry standing up on the dais telling the same jokes, the conservative commentariat would be buzzing for the rest of the year about what a tasteless skank she is.

It is a new phenomenon, sadly.

Laura Bush disgraced herself and the Presidency. It was sad.

One poster on the thread just tossed out casually that his pure image of Laura had been ruined because she told "bestiality jokes", and several others said the agreed with his sentiments, ...

The best spin you can put on it is that she did not realize what she was saying. She disgraced herself and the Presidency.

Thank you for telling us that. Hopefully certain people took note of that.

Keep yourself safe over there.

You know, maybe your words would hold more weight if you weren't so easily tracked back to anti-Bush websites like www.smirkingchimp.com where you and others like churchillbuff don't have the brains to even use a different user name!!!!!

There is no circumstance under which I would vote Jeb for President. His political career ended last week.

Do it for Terri ...

LoL - you're not the only one!
I looked through your posting history and see you got whacked right off the bat. You'll soon learn what threads to avoid and what posters to avoid...or not. (;
That being said, this place isn't what it used to be.

IMO, Bush acted like an idiot. If she only does it this once, then that's okay - it can be overlooked once. If she persists along this line then her self-appointed apologists will have their work cut out for them.

The propaganda keeps coming from you. You should be ashamed.

I have nothing to be ashamed of. On my FR Home Page, I pledged to admit when I am proven wrong. I haven't been. You have been now.

Armstrong wasn't paid by the White House. Armstrong was paid by a Communications company that was employed by the Department of Education...Armstrong was paid to run advertisements on his Radio show. Armstrong wasn't paid to promote policy on the non advertising portion of his show. Paid advertisements by their nature are not -- secret.

From the USA Today article that broke the story:

Seeking to build support among black families for its education reform law, the Bush administration paid a prominent black pundit $240,000 to promote the law on his nationally syndicated television show and to urge other black journalists to do the same.

(snip)

Williams said Thursday he understands that critics could find the arrangement unethical, but "I wanted to do it because it's something I believe in."

(snip)

The contract, detailed in documents obtained by USA TODAY through a Freedom of Information Act request, also shows that the Education Department, through the Ketchum public relations firm, arranged with Williams to use contacts with America's Black Forum, a group of black broadcast journalists, "to encourage the producers to periodically address" NCLB. He persuaded radio and TV personality Steve Harvey to invite [Education Secretary Rod] Paige onto his show twice. Harvey's manager, Rushion McDonald, confirmed the appearances.

Praytell, why would Williams admit that some would "find the arrangement unethical" if it was just as simple as buying advertising time?

You get your news from Malkin and others in the MSM, don't you? How else could you be so wrong...so often.

Michelle Malkin, part of the MSM? You're kidding me. Do you even know who Malkin is? Is her disagreement with the First Lady the first you've ever heard of her?

Whatever, dude. If you don't wanna believe her, here's something from NewsMax, founded by Christopher Ruddy, a reporter who was so tenacious about the Vince Foster death/suicide and Whitewater that 60 Minutes dedicated an entire segment to trying to discredit him. Not an MSM outlet.

Report: Armstrong Williams' Contract Violated No Laws

Senior Bush administration officials showed poor judgment and wasted money in hiring commentator Armstrong Williams to promote the president's agenda, an internal inquiry has concluded.

They violated no laws or ethics rules, however, according to the report, released Friday.

The report also revealed that two Education Department officials warned the White House last summer of concerns about the Williams contract, including the "inherent conflict" of paying a pundit to endorse the president's education law.

David Dunn, then special assistant to the president, agreed with the concerns, yet neither the White House nor the department halted the contract until it was disclosed in news reports in January.

The department paid $240,000 to Williams, a commentator with newspaper, television and radio audiences, to promote President Bush's "No Child Left Behind" law. The deal was part of a $1.3 million contract the department had with Ketchum, a public relations firm.

The report said the ads that were produced appeared to be of poor quality, and the department had no assurance that they actually aired.

Now, why would people in the Education Department warn the White House about concerns of an "inherent conflict" if the White House hadn't approved of the contract?

I'm simply holding Malkin to her own standards. You seem to have a mental block understanding this. What part of that don't you get?

This part: You don't have any idea what Malkin's standards are! If you think you know, tell me what her standards are, and how she violated them. I dare you.

Don't chicken out.

She didn't tell any "bestiality jokes". That's the only "spin" there is because it is the truth. Look in the mirror for signs of who is disgracing what around here.

You are mistaken. Hopefully you don't hold a position of trust where lives depend on your judgement.

For your education and edification, the quote is from FreeRepublic, which is fortunately saved for truth's sake. I don't visit the antiBush sites you seem to favor.

As you educate yourself on FR you may learn the meaning of satire and how to avoid embarrassing yourself in the future.
