Most of Mrs. Bush's humor at the correspondents' dinner was just right: Edgy but not over the edge. But I think the stripper and horse jokes were totally beneath her.
Just put it to the other-shoe test: If it were Teresa Heinz Kerry standing up on the dais telling the same jokes, the conservative commentariat would be buzzing for the rest of the year about what a tasteless skank she is.

Someone else stated the anger in this thread is a backlash to what was previously spoken by these individuals. I'd say that's a fair assessment.
Howlin, I'm personally not comfortable in seeing the way the Taliban card has been played recently.
Posters freely engaging in the brawl over name-calling? Don't we all enjoy spending our time playing Jesse Jackson, Patricia Ireland, Pelosi games? The "ad hominem" in lieu of substantive or civil post? So let's all burn bandwidth brawling over "ad hominems" while bigger battles are lost. Maybe, EveningStar, we all are here in these forums for our own needs to be met. Some posters seem to enjoy the personal brawling aspect; no matter what the issue is.

And for further elucidation, since I was the one who made the remark and have previously clarified but will do so again: The comparison was made because there are some men who have major female issues and they would prefer to see women keep quiet and not speak at all.
Last night there were some posts that Hillary shouldn't have even spoken at the event, for goodness sake.
That sounds like the Taliban in terms of keeping women quiet and a code of morality as outlined by the MEN.
And I include the faction on FR who sound like the Taliban with those men who have called Laura a whore, white trash, filled with hatred for her husband and is probably going to run for office in '08 (LOL), etc., etc.
Now you may wish to condemn me for my Taliban analogy. But I find it EXTREMELY telling that you haven't said a word about some of the more extreme and disgusting comments about our lovely First Lady.
Why would you say that wouldn't bother me? See, that's what I mean. I disagreed with a couple of her comments and now you are saying that I'm not bothered by these things being said of her, when in actuality I think them disgusting and I would have said as much if I had seen them. However, the majority of people just disagreed with her comments and they are attacked like you just attacked me. It's over the top.

If someone politely has a disagreement I have no quarrel with them on this issue. But it is not as simple as you make it to distance emotion after over a hundred hours spent by people directing hateful venom at the First Lady. My intent is not to justify, excuse or make a judgement either way on this exactly as it is really to acquaint you with the situation that people have been immersed in for five days. It takes its toll.
I know what you mean; but I think orig freepers need to begin exercising arabesque moves more often and stop feeding the Seymour(s).

FR never used to be like this. I've stated repeatedly for over a month now what I think has happened to FR. And it's a darned shame.
