Free Republic Military?
5/16/05 | Guard Dog

I just read a post on conservative blog that stated few freepers were veterans (implication was that we were chicken hawks). Having conversed with many of you and met a few, I do not believe that is the case. But it did get me wondering, who among us is active or prior service veterans? Awright you freeper vets SOUND OFF!

Let me guess - it probably says something like "Data Masked" on the paperwork?

Not that I'd know anything about that kind of stuff.

Like we'd need all that stuff to take out that bunch of boot licking vagitarians....... our posts alone caused at least a third to stroke out , a third will arm themselves and accidently shoot themselves per AlGore's educational pics from VN. And the rest will just whine themselves to sleep under someone elses porch like the pissin puppies they really are......

I'd like to take a moment to debunk this whole "you didn't serve" red herring. I honor all those who served. But the implication is always that if you support the present military conflict, you should serve. Maybe so. But whether an individual serves or not doesn' say anything about the policy itself. Plenty of people support crime fighting and fire fighting, but are not police officers or fire fighters themselves. Are those people hypocrites also? Those jobs are voluntary, like military service.

And plenty of liberals are in favor of higher taxes but don't kick the money in themselves. And of course everyone who is "pro-choice" on abortion has been born already. Tax paying and abortion (for the unborn child) are not vouluntary, yet it's not generally seen as hypocritical for liberals to advocate these without being "personally" involved in the way they appear to want war supporters to be.

Again, it's a diversonary tactic. I think my examples demonstrate that.

"There's probably more military veterans posting or lurking at FR than there are total non-troll posters on DU."

There is probably more FReepers with military screen names, than there are posters on DU! (Exclude mine!)

Yes, the old chickenhawk argument. You can't be for a strong defence if you haven't experienced war. I would say then you can't be for peace either unless you've experienced war. You aren't allowed any opinion at all! So those pacifists can just shut up if they aren't ex-military. That's what they're arguing!

Laz,

Wouldn't take much to take over DU...just call 'em a couple of bad names, and bring a couple of dodge balls, and they'll scatter.
