I just read a post on conservative blog that stated few freepers were veterans (implication was that we were chicken hawks). Having conversed with many of you and met a few, I do not believe that is the case. But it did get me wondering, who among us is active or prior service veterans? Awright you freeper vets SOUND OFF!

I suspect you'll find a much higher concentration of veterans "per-capita" on Freerepublic than just about any non-military site.

Certainly far more (orders of magnitude more) veterans than on the sites routinely populated by Liberals, Democrats, "Progressives", Socialists, Marxists, and any of the other professional malcontents with which this world is burdened.

I didn't serve in the military. I graduated from high school in 1969, at the height of the Vietnam war, and then proceeded to college. I graduated after four years, in 1973, as the Vietnam war was winding down.

With regard to the "chicken hawk" charge that the left likes to throw around, they were the ones in the late 1960s and early 1970s who loudly said that this nation wasn't worth fighting for, that the Vietnam war was a crime against humanity, and that the sacrifice of lives in that conflict was a waste beyond measure. Why should the left be surprised that many of my generation were discouraged from serving in the military during that period? Thank God for those who served, but many baby boomers who had an out, took it, and the anti-war/anti-American/anti-military left in this nation played a big role in suppressing what would ordinarily be a sense of duty among young men in the late '60s and early '70s.

Not me. I attend a "seeker sensitive" church, where the only songs sung are snappy, yet tedious, praise music.
