Likely AP Article

Posted on 05/23/2005 7:36:38 PM PDT by KMB

This is probably how the Associated Press will write it up.

This evening a group of 7 courageous Republican Senators chose to stand up to the ultra-right wing extremists in their party by joining with a group of 7 moderate-centrist Democratic Senators to thwart conservative Republican plans to invoke the "nuclear" option and eliminate the filibuster.

These maveric Republicans held fast against the pressure of right wing interest groups. Representatives from the right-wing Heritage Foundation and the conservative American Enterprise Institute expressed disgust with these courageous Republicans but they won praise from representatives of the Brookings Institute.

This compromise is, of course, a tremendous political defeat for George W. Bush whose plans of nominating ultra-conservative justices to the Supreme Court may be scuttled. Coupled with the impending failure of the president's Social Security proposal, the faltering economy and the fiasco in Iraq, the consensus in the nation's capital is that the President is now a lame duck.....

I'm sure that this will be the gist of any MSM take on this deal.

You know that's exactly what they'll say.

I'm betting they vilify the 7, now that the deal is struck. It's never too early to start on the next election, ya know.

Not doubt Ron Fournier is tapping away at his little Selectric as we speak.

They've got to give them one good day of press. Besides, only by portraying those 7 as courageous can they emphasize that it's courageous to support the democratic position

Republican:

The party of surrender.
The official party of France.

I'm sure that this is very similar to what they'll write. It's like the Sunday morning talk shows. I quit watching them a few years ago because I already knew what they were going to say each week.

You mean for once they are telling the truth, well, maybe "courageous" is a stretch.

"Republican:

I have what I think is the perfect nickname for Hans McCain-ski.

The Pubbies started with a lot; the Dimz started with nothing in this fight. The Dimz stamped their feet and acted like 3 year olds for two years then McCain-ski and his crew gave away most of what we had and for what? Pledges with the operative word being very nebulous.

My nomination for McCain-skis's nickname is "The cowardly lion." Folks is AZ need to retire this clown.

Truthfully, I simply do not understand the significance of, the short term implications and the long term implications of THIS _DEAL_. Do the Democrats believe they now have enough "Republican" nays on the up/down voting for Bush's three nominees who are the subjects of the fiasco?

"Rightwing" and "Conservative" are casted as if these designations were akin to loathsome extremism.

We all know that the Democrat party is a composite of extreme factions, and that the Democrat party is owned by anti-American George Soros, and that Soros funds power-lusting Hillary Clinton. This is a loathsome extremism.

The only thing that I can think of is that there might be a secret clause in which the Democrats agree not to filibuster any of the next 2 or 3 Supreme Court nominees under any circumstances.

McCain sure ain't working on Arizona's border crisis - The Minutemen did.

McCain is a sly political opportunist. McCain knew John Kerry was grossly "unfit" and a traitorous ideologue, yet he claimed Kerry as a "good friend". I suppose Viet Nam Vet and POW McCain accepts Kerry's sworn accusations that the entire U.S. Military committed atrocities. (Disgusting!)

These days, the MEDIA establishment commits atrocities.
