Dr. James Dobson Blasts Filibuster 'Betrayal'
U.S. Newswire ^ | 5/23/05 | Dr. James Dobson

Posted on 05/23/2005 8:34:29 PM PDT by Crackingham

"This Senate agreement represents a complete bailout and betrayal by a cabal of Republicans and a great victory for united Democrats. Only three of President Bush’s nominees will be given the courtesy of an up-or-down vote, and it's business as usual for all the rest. The rules that blocked conservative nominees remain in effect, and nothing of significance has changed. Justice Clarence Thomas, Justice Antonin Scalia, and Chief Justice William Rehnquist would never have served on the U. S. Supreme Court if this agreement had been in place during their confirmations. The unconstitutional filibuster survives in the arsenal of Senate liberals.

"We are grateful to Majority Leader Frist for courageously fighting to defend the vital principle of basic fairness. That principle has now gone down to defeat. We share the disappointment, outrage and sense of abandonment felt by millions of conservative Americans who helped put Republicans in power last November. I am certain that these voters will remember both Democrats and Republicans who betrayed their trust."

Frist keeps the threat of the nuclear option until the next time the obstructionists threaten a filibuster.

Except that 7 RINOs pledged this:

B. Rules Changes. In light of the spirit and continuing commitments made in this agreement, we commit to oppose the rules changes in the 109th Congress, which we understand to be any amendment to or interpretation of the Rules of the Senate that would force a vote on a judicial nomination by means other than unanimous consent or Rule XXII.

Dems get to filibuster in case of "extraordinary circumstances" but the GOP of course doesn't get the same deal in terms of the constitutional option.

We got screwed big time.

I blame McCain personally, and I intended to pragmatically support him in 2008 if he ran, up until a few hours ago.

You have it right. Nothing is locked in stone with the socalled compromise.

Actually,it appears to be a clever diversion. The press will swoon,McCain gets his facetime, and three nominees are a slam dunk.

The fight can start again, but this time the dems are on record accepting judges they have vllified for years.

This is too generous to Frist and the administration. Were any of the seven R's who bolted told that if they did, they would receive no support from the RNSC in the next election, that the President would seek out and campaign for a R that would support his judicial nominees in the next primary election, and that the Senator's state would not get a single piece of pork ever again?

Of course not. And that's why the seven were free to bolt. There was and will be no price imposed by the national party for betrayal on the most important issue of this congress. Accordingly, Frist and the Administration were just as much to blame for this fiasco as McCain.

McCain and his ilk are just being themselves--weak people who think that the current Supreme Court is doing a pretty good job. Why should they not betray their party if there is no price?

Alas, I'm concerned that the globalist's timeline may trump such patriotic efforts . . . or . . . failing that . . . to neutralize them within a few short months or years after 2006 or 2008.

MurryMom is a long-time left-wing Bush-hater who has somehow managed to avoid getting the royal zot.

"You will allow an up or down vote on EVERY nominee by July 4th, or on that Independence Day, I shall recess appoint whomever is fillibustered, and take my fight to the people, and against the obstructionists, in the midterm elections"

Out of the question. Recess appointments are worthless. The rats would trip all over themselves in laughter.

Do all of you think these "moderate" republicans would have done this, if they believed that this would hurt them with the voters? They are pretty confident that none of this will hurt them with the voters, and they get to keep their jobs as usual.

They are probably snickering at all of us who are outraged at this situation. They don't care what you think!! Its business as usual for them. That is Judges who hold conservative beliefs will be discriminated against, and barred.

Warner was sold out to the puppet masters a very long time ago. Probably imagines himself to be one.

McLame has probably been brainwashed in POW camp into a kind of Manchurian candidate/leader--putty in the puppet masters' hands. Sometimes it almost seems like he's in lock step with the Nazi's via an implant or in-ear direct hookup to their headquarters.

Graham and Chafee . . . are at least sympathesizers with the globalists or under threat or pay from them to sufficiently achieve their complicity whenever needed.

I don't know much about the rest of them.

The majority has to act like one and not put up with Democrat BS. Isolate the worst of the old-time ideologues among the Democrats - Kennedy, Kerry, Schumer, Feinstein, Byrd, Biden, Boxer, and others - give them no privileges other than those that are absolutely obligatory, deny their putrid input into the legislative process. Negotiate only with the most conservative of Democrats, make them de facto new leaders by virtue of being the only ones able to get anything done. Stick to the letter of the law or change it but don't ignore it.

Someone needs to post the picture of Lucy pulling the football away from Charlie Brown. I sense that Dobson will call for a conservative party that will split the repubs and dems. And they will have to cater to that party for anything.
