At a joint news conference in the sunlit Rose Garden, Bush lent a measure of support to the Palestinians' territorial demands. He said Israel needed Palestinian consent to retain land the Arabs lost 38 years ago.

Patently abusrd, Mr. President.

Sharon sure did a great job buying support by kicking Gaza Jews in the teeth.

The boundaries of a future Palestinian state should be those that existed before the 1967 war

There was no Palestinian state before the 1967 war, or ever.

Blackmail. Fifty million is merely a modest beginning, and they're sure we'll pony up many more millions. How long before Bush realizes he's been had? How many innocents have to die? The Palestinians don't know the first thing about setting up, much less running a civilized country, and, frankly, they have no desire to learn. Every failure, and there will be many, will be blamed on the evil US and the Jews and will serve as another opportunity for blackmail. It doesn't take Kreskin to read this crystal ball. They'll get hold of nukes, and then we'll stop playing patsy.

According to Bush, the Jews (God's chosen people) must give up Jerusalem (The Holy City, where Jesus will descend and reign on earth as the King, for 1000 years) to the godless Islamonazis...

And then he gives another 50,000,000 of our hard earned bucks to these terrorists so they can live more comfortably...All the while claiming we don't have enough money to pay a sufficient number of border patrol agents to keep out illegal aliens...

We are in big trouble...

You know, I do not know what goes on behind closed doors (that's why we have DEBKA) but we will see in a few days or weeks what all this was about.

Jeez. Let's just hope he doesn't apologize to any American Indians. Will we all need to get their permission to stay here?

"In a show of support, Bush said he would provide $50 million to the Palestinian Authority, which Abbas heads. The money is to be used for new housing in Gaza, which Sharon plans to evacuate this summer. "

Hey that is partly my money! I do not want it going to another dictator for his personal enrichment and benefit.

This is starting to look like the oil for food thing with Saddam... except we don't even get any oil out of it. Just handing out those billions

I think had we controlled the money we could have built a regular US style residential area and put away enough for every pali to retire.

Pass some out here Mr. President.

Cannot agree with the Pres. on this. Israel was attacked and gained this land by defeating their attackers. They need it for the buffer and protectiion it affords. There was not and is not a Palestinian state that owns this land.

By this reasoning, we should give Texas back to Mexico---which it also sometimes looks like Bush is for, and the Cherokee Nation
back to it's original owners.

vaudine.

Our President should not give money to a very large terrorist gang that refuses to stop attacks against Israel. And historically, factually, there has never been a Palestinian nationality. There is only a breeding army of generic Arabs who are trying to exterminate the people of Israel (see "British Mandate").

And as for Europe, we cannot appease Europe, either, by helping emissaries from various Arab nations to take all roads leading into Israel (again, see what the British did).

"...Says Israel Needs Palestinian Consent to Retain Formerly Arab Territory"

Tricky language aside, this rings a bell comparing it to the British White Paper of 1939 (not to be confused with the one of 1922), where the jew immigration to the Mandate was restricted to a ridiculously low number, and anything further was subjected to "no further Jewish immigration will be permitted unless the Arabs of Palestine are prepared to acquiesce in it"; i.e. asking them for consent.

As it was then, an attempt to appease arabs giving them unearned authority now would result on going further away from anything resembling peace, not closer.

Bush seems to have failed to grasp the most basic concept of a contract. A contract is only in effect if both sides perform their part. If Israel agreed not to expand settlements in return for Arabs cracking down on terrorists and Abbas has not done so Israel is under no obligation to carry out its part. If Bush's Harken Energy agreed to pay for the purchase of drilling equipment and the company failed to deliver the equipment would Harken have kept paying anyway? That is what Israel is being asked to do.

Patently absurd

It was spoken strictly for the consumption of the Palestinians, IMO.

It's called diplomacy and none of us have any idea what he really thinks or what exactly is going on behind the scenes.

Things are no always as they appear.

"He said Israel needed Palestinian consent to retain land the Arabs lost 38 years ago."

Find it VERY hard to believe Bush actually said this. The siurce IS Associated Press.

The Philistinians have a state - its called Jordan from which they were evicted years ago for causing trouble.

Our National Policy of Islamophilia is growing tiresome.
