~ MILITARY SHORT SPEAK ~ |
 |
The military seems to have a language of its own, with many terms, Acronyms, initialisms and abbreviations that aren't generally used in the "civilian world." What is an acronym? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words. It is spoken as one word. What is an initialism? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words, but each letter is spoken separately. What is an abbreviation? It is a shortened version of a word. What is Short Speak? It is any and all of the above. Want to know what they are talking about? Read on... |

Today's Field Trip: NAS Pax River
If you have a suggestion for a Field Trip - maybe a place where YOU have been stationed and would like to re-visit - PLEASE Freepmail it to starcmc!! Thanks!

Please remember: The Canteen exists to support our military heroes serving all over the world and their families. There are lots of places around Free Republic to talk about politics and debate your views. Please try to keep it out of the Canteen. We want to keep the Canteen a place where the guys and gals who are serving can sit down, kick their shoes off and relax and not have to keep their guard up. Thanks for your help! Now go out there and have FUN!!!! *HUGS!* Quote of the day: When in doubt, empty your magazine.

I hate it every time I read about one of the troops dying! It just hurts my heart! I am so glad we have this place to come to and laugh, cry, cuss, and discuss with our awesome troops things that are going on here....and there!

I didn't know Lt. Col. Crowe, I know his sister. I just read about it and hope I can see her soon. I will be at his services to Honor him.

We really do have to work on a Canteen meet-up sometime. For real. I would so love to meet all of the folks on here. Well, most of them anyway. Tom could leave a FEW of his voices at home. LOL!!!!

It's a great place for riding bikes--although I never got that far. We went to the Davis Mountains a couple of times and the ride up to McDonald's Observatory was more fun--but Don does like to take the curves laying nearly on the side! Yeehhaaawww!

Good evening FReeper Canteen!
What a day!! On the way home from my Navy Reserve drill my car just died right on a busy street juast after i turned onto it. Thankfully a motorist and his girlfriend (or wife) helped to push me 50ft to a busness parking lot. Luckily it was only a dead battery that was still under warranty, so it was a free replacement. I swear I'm this close to pushing that car into the river and just ride my bicycle everywhere.
