their obligatory 10-day waiting period

I can very easily imagine Holloway being hidden aboard, if they're as serious about finding her as they say they are, you'd think they'd check it out, and every other boat connected in any way to the primary characters involved.. before too long.

I would think that any boat she may have been on would have taken her someplace else by now. Even if that boat transfered her to another boat sitting off shore elsewhere.

I asked earlier today, and I can't seem to find any answer to this question:

What happened to that LORENZO fellow? Remember, there was a post from a girl (yesterday some time) in Aruba who has been supplying information. She said that Natalee had been held in Lorenzo's basement. She said Natalee was there because most homes in Aruba don't have basements.

Lorenzo was questioned by the police two days ago. It was also posted on FR that Lorenzo was the son of P. van der Sloot, Joran's father. Evidently P. van der Sloot had a relationship with another woman on Aruba before he married his present wife. Lorenzo was the product of that relationship - hence he is Joran's half-brother. Lorenzo's mother married another man, and he committed suicide - but even that is skeptical, because some said it might have been murder.

I think all of this is very mysterious (like everything else with this case). If the story about Natalee being held in the basement is true...why is Lorenzo free? After he was questioned he was let go and nothing more has been said about him - no TV reporter has even pursued it. Shortly after that the police brought in S. Croes. Now he is being held.

So, did they let Lorenzo go the same way they let VDS and his two friends go...giving him time to cover up evidence, get rid of something? What gives with those police?

Any news on this guy?

Aruba police question detained teen's dad

6/19/2005, 8:09 p.m. CT

By PETER PRENGAMAN The Associated Press

ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AP) — Aruban police on Sunday questioned the father of a Dutch teenager held in the disappearance of an Alabama teenager, hoping the island justice official may know something to help solve the mystery of what happened to her, an official said.

Paul van der Sloot, a judge-in-training on the island, was questioned for two hours Sunday afternoon after five hours Saturday night, said Police Superintendent Jan van der Straaten.

Joran van der Sloot, 17, one of the people last seen with Natalee Holloway the night she disappeared. Three other men have been detained, but no one has been charged.

Van der Straaten said the father was asked to come back Sunday because officials were not able to finish the interrogation on Saturday, but declined to give more details.

"He was questioned as a witness, no more or no less," van der Straaten told The Associated Press.

The attorney general's spokeswoman, Mariaine Croes, said witnesses are questioned when prosecutors believe they may be able to add something to the case.

"You may know something more or you may have seen something more, but you are not a suspect or thought to be part of any crime," Croes said.

During Sunday's interrogation, van der Sloot's wife, Anita van der Sloot, met with Joran in jail, said van der Straaten.

Holloway, 18, of Mountain Brook, Ala., disappeared in the early hours of May 30, the last day of a five-day vacation with 124 students celebrating their high school graduation. Her U.S. passport and packed bags were found in her room.

Joran van der Sloot and two friends said they took Holloway to a northern beach but dropped her off at her Holiday Inn, where they claim she was approached by a security guard.

On Saturday, a judge ordered Joran van der Sloot and his two friends, brothers Deepak Kalpoe, 21, and Satish Kalpoe, 18, to stay in jail for at least another week while the investigation continues.

A fourth detained man — a party boat disc jockey — was to appear before a judge Monday, Croes said. He was identified by his boss as Steve Gregory Croes, 26.

Steve Croes was arrested Friday after giving police a statement, said Marcus Wiggins, his boss on the boat Tattoo. Steve Croes is not related to Mariaine Croes.

It was not known how the disc jockey might be connected to the case.

Under Dutch law, which Aruba follows as a Dutch protectorate, authorities can detain people for up to 116 days without charging them.

Investigators refuse to say whether they believe Holloway is dead. Her mother, Beth Holloway Twitty, has said she will continue to believe the teen is alive until she has proof to the contrary.

Holloway Twitty, 44, sat in the front pew during a Saturday night Mass dedicated to her family at a Pentecostal church.

"We admire the strength and courage you've shown as a mother," pastor Gilbert Martes told the Holloway Twitty, who listened to the sermon with her eyes closed.

Holloway Twitty has insisted that Joran van der Sloot and the Kalpoes hold the key to the investigation and that authorities pressure the young men harder to tell the truth.

In Alabama, a Holloway family friend said Holloway's relatives identified and located Joran van der Sloot and the Kalpoe brothers less than a day after the teen vanished. But the three young men were not detained until 10 days later.

"It's just disappointing that they (authorities) weren't able to move faster," Jody Bearman, who organized the graduation trip, told AP.

What happened to that LORENZO fellow?

The last that you heard about Lorenzo is the last that we all have heard about Lorenzo.

I imagine the party boat is in constant use.

Aruban authorities wouldn't want to interfere with the tourist business to search a popular tourist attraction, now, would they?

Seriously, Steve Gregory Croes would not have been able to take this boat out after hours--it's not his boat. He just works on it as a deejay.

Friends of Croes, however, have said he is friendly with many of the fisherman who have their boats and huts in the same area (as the Tattoo). It wouldn't be hard for him to get ahold of a small fishing boat to take a body out to the North Shore, where all the sharks are.

I believe he is dead. You are talking about the fire fighter from Texas?

My mom dated him a few times in East Texas, back in the forties. Guess he was quite the guy.

John Wayne played Red Adair in the movie "Hellfighters".

Yes, true. Just one more thing that should've been done right away, yet wasn't done at all.

Ifeel your pain--and your frustration!

That Marianne Croses is a little twerp who talks like a wind-up doll. Is this the best representative the Aruban government can put on worldwide TV?

God help all the Holloways and all the Twittys. I don't know how they can stand this ordeal. They would d well to hire an excellent private detective like Gil Alba. I hear they have hired an attorney to help them wade through issues of international law. They need all the help they can get.

I wish the Big Cowboy (GWB) would make a surprise visit to Aruba.

You're right--this could turn into a major international incident. Wars have been started over less.

Both VanderSloots look kind of dissipated to me. She looks a lot older than him. I guess she's the one with the money, since Paulus is just a humble civil servant.

They're both from the Netherlands, and moved to Aruba about ten years ago. He has a law degree...so why is he clerking at a Gov. office?

Many expatriates have something shady in their past--which is why they flee to these "island paradises" in the first place.

I, for one, appreciate all corrections. Much of the info coming from Riehl and Scared Monkeys is pure assumption, rumor, or speculation. They are not what I would consider reliable sources.

Riehl was interviewed on FOX the other evening...he did not impress me.

" I've been Google newsing the story since it broke last night and there's just nothing out there. "

You'd think it would be a HUGE news story in a country with basically NO crime. *sarcasm* In reality, that would be a huge story anywhere, imo. I'm surprised you can't find anything out there. It would be interesting to know which hotel the wife worked for.

I wonder if they are always this secretive about News or just in this case.

Nor was I impressed. Perhaps it was stage fright. But all he offered was speculations and pictures that anyone could have obtained off the internet.

Just another one getting their 15 minutes of fame.

The reason I ask about gambling (saw this posted on a blog) is that there may be a connection between owing money and the disappearance of Natalee. Far fetched - sure.

More interesting is the ex pat issue. Here we have a ex -pat family in which the 17 year old son is allowed to get blasted and gamble and get has his own private apartment on the family grounds. Something is not right here.

Supposedly they are secretive about all cases. Can't say, since I haven't followed other cases from there.

I sure wouldn't want to 'muddy the waters'. ;)
