China activates bomb shelters

Intelligence sources suspect reopening to public is part of strategic deception

China's decision to open up massive bomb shelters to the public, ostensibly to provide a respite from summer heat, has U.S. intelligence analysts concerned about a possible strategic deception by Beijing, reports Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.

The government made a high-profile public announcement, carried by the official Xinhua news agency, this week that bomb shelters in central Chongqing would be opened to the public to allow residents to cool off during a heat wave in which temperatures are reaching into the 90s.

Specifically, the announcement said, the government had decided to open 24 cool, underground air-raid shelters, most of them built in the 1960s and 1970s.

"A heat wave with high humidity has hit Chongqing since last week, making life unbearable to residents, many of whom only have electric or palm-leaf fans to cool off," the Xinhua report explained.

What war was that? I must have been taking a nap during the nuke war.

Japan and testings done in the US and by the Soviets.

There will be a nuke war, by the way.

Communist use the euphemism "assymetric warfare" for a good reason.

We don't, as a matter of civilized conduct, intentionally use Bunker Buster-type weapons on civilian shelters: we use them on MILITARY targets, like command-and-control sites.

Whether the ChiComs would use them on OUR civilian shelters. . . no need, as we don't HAVE dedicated shelters (church cellars, etc, don't exactly count. . . ) for our civilians. . . in fact, it's been YEARS since I can recall a Fallout Shelter sign in a public place. . .

PR...hard to hide a massive flood.

Why do you think they routinely torture chinese "political" prisoners? Why do you think they have a closed society, regardless of the charade they're parading as an "open" economy? Why do you think they use slave labor? (And sadly, we turn a blind eye to it.)

Are you defending oppression? Why do you think Taiwan exists? What has slowly happened to Hong Kong's supposed pact with Beijing for "self-governance"? And on, an on, an on...

Ahhhhhhhhh...It's prudent to take in all scenarios.

China has been building up its military and ability to project force, why? It's under no direct threat from any of it's bordering nations...though N.K. is a plausible threat, it's remote at best. Besides, China doesn't need to build up a large ocean going navy to take N. Korea...and they have been building up.

So what is the REAL THREAT? Seems like CHINA views the U.S. as the largest threat to the continuation of it's Moaist State...that an perhaps some pressure from within.
They want TAIWAN because it's a national symbol of "UP YOURS!" to the Moaist Regime and adds fuel to the fire for potential, and natural, regime change in China...if they crush TAIWAN...they quell, perhaps, future threats from within.

Well, if they attack TAIWAN...we'll probably defend the island with carrier battle groups...etc...CHINA, at least for now, has little answer for such force with conventional detterrents...more likely they would use low yield tac nukes to destroy a battle group at sea, but maybe not...but it's plausible. Are response would be to nuke mainland China military command and control centers as well as other strategic locations...lots of Chinese in those areas...they'll need the shelters.

Perhaps China is simply quelling unrest from the "HEAT", maybe? But there is no reason not to believe there is a dual purpose in the actions of the Chicomms.

IMHO you play out all scenarios, and dismiss nothing when it comes to the Chinese.

The flood rescues were partially PR, but undoubtedly they were organized by local officials who have an emotional stake in the community.

I agree that a portion of the Chinese people, and a portion of the American people, and most Europeans, have little or no regard for human life (except for the lives of their families, their friends and their own sorry behinds). In China, the national government is controlled by those who think abortion is an effective method of population control, etc. In America, our national government is leaning much more pro-life, though it's a constant battle. (Europe is a lost cause.)

But when you look at the community level, you see people who do care about life. I believe it is for this reason that thousands of people were rescued from drowning during the recent rains.

Unless our President responds within a few minutes such a response won't happen.
Even a direct nuclear attack on the US mainland wouldn't be met with a nuclear response unless it were ordered immediately.
Any such nuclear response would be talked to death by our libs/commieRATs/MSM/Rinos.

We'd PC ourselves to oblivion.

Ahhhh...did politics change in China?

The Chinese people do not elect their leaders, right? We do...there is a large difference.

I have no doubt that the Chinese community, "individuals", in general, have a high regard for human life...but they don't run the government. The government is run by a cadre of "politically enlightened" in China. There is no moral equivolance you can make between the Chinese government and the governments of Europe and the U.S.

And when taking into account potential warring "nation" states, that's what matters. To China it's not conscious or consequence, it's a numbers game when going to war.

To put it somewhat simply. If the Chinese people were truly in control of their government, a democracy, etc...I would not argue. I would be the first person to tell you China and the U.S. would not consider each other a threat. But as it stands, China's political cadre's sole function is the perpetuation of the Moaist state and Chinese Hegemony (it sees Taiwan as a threat to that)...that puts in direct conflict with U.S. interests.

We gave up on bomb shelters long ago. In the long run it won't matter if some survive unless they are top gov't officials. It is important the top gov't officials survive because only they know where the key to the liquor cabinet is.

I am sure you know the drill as well as I.

If China decided to attack TAIWAN...I have a feeling we'd have at least a little lead time, regardless, of how much a surprise China would try to pull off.

Once CINCPAC felt there was a threat, he'd inform the POTUS, he'd flush the bombers from Diego Garcia to stay on station in theatre. (And probably for their own safety.)

Since the fifties this has been Wargamed...there's very serious, and well, thought out procedure for such a challenge made by CHINA. If China used nukes fist in such a manner, attacking a military target, we'd answer with a pre-planned measured nuclear response.

The libs etc...would never be consulted, that's why it's always been the POTUS decsion, why he's CINC, why the football is always at his side.

It's tacitly understood the POTUS has the ability to act with unilateral authority if any soveriegn territory or asset under the U.S. flag is attacked with a nuclear device, which is why there is so much uncertainty regarding a response to a terrorist using such a device on U.S. soil...who do you nuke? Reagan's policy makers felt...you nuke everyone.

The four city/municipality provinces in China are Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, and Chongqing. Chongqing is:

Seems like CHINA views the U.S. as the largest threat to the continuation of it's Moaist State...

Why would the Chinese believe that we would nuke them? Whatever they say, they know that we would not strike first. You suggest they would gamble on a nuclear strike against an American deployment somewhere in range of China... Perhaps if they have been led to believe that there would be no retaliation, that would be so. (Would Clinton have retaliated?)

Some people believe there are sick Utopians in China who fantasize about a global destruction that leaves a few chosen ones to emerge from shelters to lead the remaining, grateful, world population... Nah.

I am not suggesting "we'd" make the first strike...I am suggesting China would use nuclear weapons in a "hypothetical but plausible" war for TAIWAN.

I am, also, suggesting in such a hypothetical war China would play the numbers and be willing to accept nuclear retaliation from the U.S., as long as their ultimate goal of taking TAIWAN and perpetuating the MOAIST state (in whatever surviving form) could be achieved. And if they attacked TAIWAN, China would certainly beleive it could survive...afer all Sun Tzu was Chinese, they haven't forgotten his doctrine, neither have we.

I don't think the Chinese wish to be the "Utopian" society that leads the rest of the world out of a nuclear holocaust, but I do believe, and rightly, so...they feel TAIWAN as a threat to their soveriegnty, which they may be willing to go to war for (and use nukes to achieve their ends). A point you have neglected to address.

Thanks.

Mutually-assured destruction is a highly effective nuclear policy, IMHO.

Well, Clinton is not currenlty POTUS as you well know..so what he'd do is moot.

But, regardless of my disdain for the man, I believe he'd follow the measured response procedure (cus he loved cruise missiles) and retaliate in kind to the Chinese...if they attacked on his watch with a nuke.

But Remember, the Chinese had clinton in their back pocket, and during his administration China stole the secrets to modernize thier militery. It would appear, at least from all the latest press, that china is modernizing it's military to be in a position to make an attack against TAIWAN(the strength for which China lacked during the Clinton years)

Again Sun Tzu, use spies to your advantage, grow your armies strong under subterfuge...China has done this well.

POTUS decsion,(sic) why he's CINC, why the football is always at his side.

True. But what if his decision is to not issue the nuclear release right away?

My point wasn't that he hasn't the authority only that he must use that authority immediately before our domestic enemy can involve themselves.

"Anyone that votes Democratic is either stupid or un-American."

If China's smart, they'll wait and see who's President in '08, because if it's Hillary, retaliation would be minimal.
