Is it just me or......?(Vanity)
Posted on 06/28/2005 7:25:08 PM PDT by Bombardier
Is it just me or is anyone else tired of the cable news channels taking twelve hours out of a twenty-four hour day to spend talking about the blonde girl who disappeared in Aruba? I feel very bad for her parents, but to be very frank, it's been what? A month? We all know the Aruban cops make the Keystone Kops look like Lenny Briscoe, we already know that the Dutch legal system is essentially useless, and we all have theories about this girl's disappearance that range from the plausible to the utterly weird. What else do we need to know? Has any new USEFUL information been brought out?
Is anyone else ready for Fox, CNN, MSNBC and the rest to go back to covering real news, or do you still want to get the satellite transmissions of Geraldo's, Greta's and whoever-else's Caribbean "working vacation"? I know I'm ready for real news, what about the rest of you?

I've chosen that, but it still galls me that it's come down to not watching for legitimate news, or seeing Emeril Lagasse "BAM!" some helpless piece of chicken instead.

I don't watch TV news anymore. My sole source of news information is FreeRepublic... and foxnews.com and MLive.com and msnbc.com and freep.com, but other than those, it's just FreeRepublic.

It's simple. They get to all be in Aruba until she's found. Wouldn't you still be covering it? Let see, DC in June or Aruba?

"I think FOX is hoping Greta will crack the case herself, on the air. Honestly, if anyone is going to do it, it'll be her. I don't see the Aruban police department doing it."
Agreed! Excellent observation!

No, it's not just you. I agree with you 100%.

I've taken to getting all of my news off of reliable internet sites- like the WSJ Best of the Web, NRO, the Drudge Report, and FreeRepublic. That way, I get to read what I want when I want to, and I don't get Aruba crammed down my throat. But in the TV world, we did get a reprieve from the Holloway case when that kid went missing in the Uintas...

The question is did Greta beat O'Reilly and Hannity & Colmes because she has greatly expanded her base audience or because the Factor and Hannity & Colmes viewers are turning them off in great numbers out of disgust and boredom since they are not talking real news and politics but only obssesed coverage of tabloid news like the Natalee Hollaway story.

You are correct everyone that likes NEWS, hates this stuff... I was really hoping after Michael Jackson we would get a breather. I should have known better.

Exercise the OFF button attached to your tv set. If enough people would do that, things will change.

It's time for another "child stuck in a well" episode.
"Baby Jessica" fell down the well again? I'd settle for re-runs over the Neverland Rach coverage ... ;-)

I am utterly disgusted by this tabloid crap about missing people (mainly blonde girls/women), and court trials.
About to don a flame-resistant suit but I think the reason the ratings are killer for these sorts stories is almost entirely women.
