Quietly, WMD units prepare for the worst
MSNBC ^ | June 28, 2005 | Michael Moran

Since 1999, Furey and the Massachusetts National Guard team he commands have been dedicated to responding to potential domestic attacks involving chemical, biological or nuclear weapons in the Boston area.

Such planning may surprise the public, but since 9/11, police and fire departments increasingly regard such preparations as routine. And agencies in the Boston area have had a lot of practice in the past calendar year, beginning with the Democratic National Convention, the Fourth of July, the Boston Marathon, baseball playoffs and a World Series for the Red Sox, and a successful NFL championship by the New England Patriots.

"Every one of these are events we have to worry about," Furey said. "We're there, and mostly the public doesn't see it, but that's as it should be."

We're not really preventive; we are a worst-case operation," he said. "But we can't survive on wishful thinking. There are other people whose job it is to prevent attacks. Ours is to make sure that if there ever is one, we know just what it is and how to react to save as many lives as possible."

Another small tip of another iceberg in the War on Terror, where most things that happen are thing we are not evern aware of.

This is why we have to continue to fight the Global War on Terror, keep persevering in Iraq and keep the terrorists in prisons, to help us get information, which may prevent devastating attacks.

Perhaps it's time to re-post these:

Nuclear, Biological, & Chemical Warfare- Survival Skills, Pt. II

Although, much as I hate to say it, the best advice was from an old British Field Manual...

"Defense against an Atom Bomb?

Don't be there when it goes off..."

"..and keep the terrorists in prisons, to help us get information, which may prevent devastating attacks."

Too bad Gen. Weasly Clark and the rest of the liberals and rats don't seem to understand this.

While the democrats want Americans to wait to be attacked by chem or bio weapons, the better strategy is to use everything we can to kill the terrorist-planners of such attacks. Kill the enemy on his home ground before he can get here.

Best way to keep people from getting hurt from a nuclear blast is to surround the suspected area (if known) with liberal Dems. They're so dense that neither they nor the public will get hurt...

It amazes me to see folks just 'ho hum' this threat. It is real and a very good possibility it will happen. Oh I forgot, politics before survival.

God forgive me for saying this, but at least if the worst does happen, given that the terrorists will target a large city, a bunch of libs will be the victims of their own stupidity.

Well think about it. The large cities are blue cities that are the deviant cities where abortion, gay marriage and other immoral acts take place. The Jihadists deplore this, so bombing there makes sense to them.

Sort of makes sense to me also.

That's likely, but let's not forget the terrorists aren't dumb. If they were stupid, they wouldn't have been able to see they take over three jet planes with box cutters with current American policy what it is.

So now they are thinking outside the box again. I wonder if biological weapons might be part of the next hit, if only because it'd be easier to make them or get them into the U.S., nukes being easier to detect and harder to transport. Something transmitted by touch instead of air with an incubation period so as to make the spread faster but harder to detect could also be more targeted. Imagine them sending a contagion-laden "suicide handshaker" or even "suicide cougher" to a huge church.

Someone here noted that Iran has inoculated its populace for smallpox.

Until a WMD attack actually occurs, the left will ho-hum the possibility and blame Bush for scaremongering. Then when it happens, they will scream that Bush didn't do enough to prevent it. Finally, when Bush responds afterward with a decisive counterstrike, the left will scream bloody murder, corporate Nazi genocide!

Given that we, for all intents and purposes, do not protect our borders, particularly the southern border, IMHO it is entirely possible the terrorists have already "imported" some nastiness and are actively preparing to use it.

An unpleasant thought, granted, but very possible.

And the Federal Imperial government just looks the other way. How smart is that?

My other theory is a container ship bringing in a fatboy nuke to the port of Houston or some other southeastern port city--but Houston seems the best option since it's got winds that will scatter fallout all over the South, and Texas is Dubya's home state.

But it could be anything as long as we keep our policies fairly static. Anything that is constant can be planned around, and you really can't stop someone who's willing to die for a cause from taking at least someone with him if he's dedicated and smart enough.

Hell, it's worked for them so far--if you look at the MSM polls.

But then, we'll see in 2006. Long time before that election.
