I'm heading off to bed for the evening.
But..
The immortal campfire was started with wet damp wood, and refused to go out after having twelve or so gallons of water poured into the fire pit until the coals floated.
Well, it wouldn't go out.
I'd started the campfire with Sterno and pine tree branches.
It was quite a comfortable fire too, nice and cozy.
But we had to leave the fire pit area, needed to put out the fire.
And then things got weird.
Since I hadn't used THAT much Sterno, only two small centimeter square chunks smeared over the wood and the fire had burned for four hours, the Sterno SHOULD have been gone.
Usually one or two gallons did the trick.
Usually.
Usually the fire sputtered and hissed into silence.
Usually.
But this fire revolted.
It foughtback.
Gallon after gallon of water flushed over the fire and it kept going.
The coals finally floated, and the fire kept going, hissing and sputtering.
After about another hour of staring at it, everyone looked at me and said, "Any ideas?"
My response was something to the effect of "Yeah, one last idea before I'm done trying to put this out."
Well.. I don't recommend the way I put the campfire out.
Some euphemistically refer to it as "emptying the tanks."
$66k. So much, yet so little.
The cost of a legal action? One piece of media equipment? A short commercial?
