CAFTA outlaws many vitamins & supplements - stop CAFTA NOW!
Ask the Pharmacist Group ^

Posted on 07/23/2005 6:26:34 AM PDT by disclaimer

Defeat CAFTA and save your supplements. You must ACT NOW!

ACT NOW to preserve your access to nutrients, effective vitamins and minerals, and nutritional medicine! We have leverage - it's very close, perhaps within 1 vote!

Listen to Len & Joe (Ask the Pharmacist Group) discuss why this is an important issue for all of us!

CAFTA - BAD for jobs, small businesses, health stores, health freedom

In the fine print the US is being signed up to global regulations that override US supplement laws.

The outcome for CAFTA is up for grabs, as the vote is very close in the House of Representatives.

This is a unique opportunity to get our issue before Members of Congress who have not heard of Codex. The more people who call, the better.

A much larger number of calls are needed to delay CAFTA.

Contact Congress today

Recommened Action:
Call your Representatives' office

Call 1-202-224-3121 weekdays or call your representatives' local district office. If possible, take the time to visit their local district office in person.

or

Email your Representative. We've provided a link to a letter that you can edit to make it easy for you.

It's close! You can influence the decision.

Please ask your Representative to make arrangements with staff to remain vigilant. The treaty could be introduced to the House in the middle of the night or in the early morning.

It will take a lot of pressure, and many more calls and letters to raise this issue of the international threat to supplements. Many in Congress have not yet heard of Codex.

If opposition succeeds in delaying CAFTA, it could still come back for a vote later.

Calls need to number in the millions if we are to make this a 'third rail' issue. It is going to take sustained involvement by the public over a long time, to achieve adequate status for natural medicine.

Once upon a time, we used leeches to let blood . .

Bet you didn't know this:

FDA Approves Leeches as Medical Devices.

No I didn't. But the WTO didn't prevent it, either. That's the point I'm contesting.

Remember, people remember what the FDA tried to do with supplements years ago. It took an act of Congress to reign them in. There is a precedent for the skepticism behavior, imo. Nowadays, we have Supreme Court Justices that refer to internatioal law when making decisions. Is it that much of a leap?

" In the past, FDA has repeatedly attempted to define dietary supplements as drugs or food additives and subsequently remove them from the market. The legislation defines a dietary supplement as any product which contains one or more dietary ingredients such as a vitamin, mineral, herb or other botanical, amino acid or other ingredient used to supplement the diet. The legislation makes it clear that these products may not be regulated as food additives or drugs under most circumstances."

Congress blocks FDA from removing health supplements

"Who cares about vitamins?"

I for one believe the ME'ers suffer from malnutrition, which has caused them to morph into rabid dogs. They need more bacon, eggs and ham...IMO

Pointy-headed elitism? Zheesh.

I'm simply acknowledging that we are nowhere near getting to the point of everyone being educated enough to evaluate health and treatment options, thanks to government schools and negiligent parents. There's nothing elitist about that. It's simply recognizing an unfortunate reality.

I'd appreciate it if you could eliminate the baseless personal attacks.

"If CAFTA effectively puts supplements back under FDA, I would have to reluctantly say that's a good thing."

I don't think the government should EVER be able to stop people from taking any supplements or drugs they want. If the government wants to require that the manufacturers put a label on an item stating all the concerns of the FDA, or stating flatly that "this is not fit for human consumption" or "this will kill humans", that's better than the government prohibiting people from using them. If we believe the government labels, we'll stop. If we don't believe the government, we'll use them anyway.

In responding to me please put aside scaled "recreational drugs", which are not really the subject of this thread. They are mainly offensive to me because of the welfare state. Otherwise, I believe that free men and women should have the right to kill themselves or otherwise choose to go to hell in whatever manner please them. But that's not what this post is about.
