Edited on 08/12/2005 5:17:22 AM PDT by Lead Moderator. [history]

Hey, I have been posting this on the internet all night...I need everyones help please! This is the story...sorry its kinda jumbled....WKLQ is on the air right now, and they need to be stopped!

Update: I just listened to KLQ for like a nano second and they said they are still planning on killing the dog. Two children have drown in the last week in this area, and they want to bring "awareness" to parents by showing how easy it is to drown. They are not only killing a dog, but they are gaining national attention for their radio show by capitalizing on the tragic deaths of children. These people are the scum of the earth, and should be taken down!! Even if this is a stunt, it does not give them a right to make money and gain fame off the deaths of children.

PLEASE help us!! Call the station, tell them they suck...call their sponsors and tell them you will never use their products again! Just do something, please! The info and original post(s) are below. Thank you for your help!

(last nights post) I just watched the news and KLQ is maintaing that they ARE going to kill the dog tomorrow morning. The police are looking into it, but we still need your help. Let's protest the crap out of KLQ!!!!

here is KLQs numbers...dont forget to *67 your number! And if you e-mail them they may give out your address on the air...so beware! (use a fake account)

Office Phone: 616.774.8461 Studio Phone: 616.459.1180 and 800.785.1073

(first post) I am so upset right now...I need everyones help!

A local radio station is DROWNING A DOG to make people "more aware of drowning". Please help me protest this and help save this poor dog (or any dog) from death!

Here is the station (sorry you'll have to cut and paste) http://www.wklq.com/

Here are the DJ's that are doing it and the blog about it http://www.justiceandjim.modblog.com/

And this is the number to the local grand rapids police 616-456-3400 (the police are saying not to call, because its tying up real emergencies)

Here is the Kent County Humane Society site...I e-mailed them...you should too!! http://www.hskc.org/about-us-contact.htm

I'm REALLY hoping that they are doing it for publicity, but either way if its true or not, they suck and need their a$$es kicked! So please help me kick some a$$!

That was my thought. The dog won't drown, it'll just swim to a bank and get out.

Every dog we've ever owned could swim and that dog looks like it might have a little lab in her, in which case, she not only won't drown, she'll have a nice time going for a swim.

Probably just a tasteless stunt. Locals should contact the sponsors of these morons, preferably the CEO!

THE MICHIGAN PENAL CODE (EXCERPT)
Act 328 of 1931
750.50 Definitions; charge or custody of animal; prohibited conduct; forfeiture of animal; violation as misdemeanor or felony; penalty; order to pay costs; order prohibiting owning or possessing animal for certain period of time; violation of subsection (6); revocation of probation; certain conduct not prohibited by section.

...(f) Willfully or negligently allow any animal, including one who is aged, diseased, maimed, hopelessly sick, disabled, or nonambulatory to suffer unnecessary neglect, torture, or pain.

...(4) A person who violates subsection (2) is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than 93 days or a fine of not more than $1,000.00 or community service for not more than 200 hours, or any combination of these penalties and the cost of prosecution.

But what if someone holds the dog under water (probably would have to be someone very strong or two or more people).

I'll be travelling to that side of that state later today and will be there all weekend. If I see anything on local television or hear anything more on the radio about this sick stunt, I'll post info. Hope everybody who reads this thread takes the time to email and call the station.

Thanks to everyone who phoned or emailed in, for taking the time to express your comments and concerns. Jim and I hope that you also took the time to listen to the finale this morning just after 8am.

To set the record straight, the entire stunt was a complete fabrication. A combination of dog sound effects, recorded audio of our stunt guy outside the building and personal recordings I did of water splashing using my 3 year old son Logans kiddy pool.

Again...THERE WAS NO DOG. (You can actually see where we found the photo of "Mindy" here http://images.google...&btnG=Search+Images)

After the reveal that there was no dog, Melinda Howard of the Greater Grand Rapids Child Safety Coalition was kind enough to join us live on the air to talk about child safety. She will be leading a child safety class today at Millennium Park between Noon and 3pm.

There was never any intention to drown a dog or bring harm to any animal what so ever. What you heard and the way the show was executed was exactly as we had planned.

What we did this morning, we feel needed to happen to grab the proper attention about the dangers of children and water related accidental deaths.

I have a 3 year old son whom I love dearly and 2 cats. In no way would I, Jim or anyone on our staff bring harm to any animal. Of course it is a joke, if they did this they will be in jail before noon, there are laws against animal cruelty.

Not to mention the loss of the station's license.

But what if someone holds the dog under water

Then they'll go to jail too. This is a stupid radio prank people they aren't going to drown a dog. But they do have people talking about drowning.

SO they've made their point and probably performed a valuable public service.
