When George was elected - thank God - because of the alternative - I (Austinite) wasn't all that keen on him, having watched him gaffe untold scenarios.
Knew he had a heart, though, and look what that heart's had to deal with: 9/11 and Katrina. 2 out of 3 toughest disasters in US history. Then add China and India going bear to the 10th power on us.
Picture Clinton 'Funnest years of my life' compared to the nonstop nightmare Bush got dealt.
Who knows? Perhaps Perry could grow up real quick like W did. Doubt it, though.
Perry is responsible for Texas' parental consent law, our defense of marriage act, new protections against the use of eminent domain, the most sweeping tort reform in the nation, bridging a $10 billion budget deficit with no tax increases, and he pushed thru congressional redistricting, which allowed republicans to hold on to our majority in congress.
i'd say he's one of the most, if not the most, conservative governors in the country.
The entire debacle is quite shocking to me. They've known for decades that the day would come and it looks every bit as if they hadn't planned for it in the slightest..
Of course, "they" just vaguely refers to everyone ever in a position of authority to plan ahead for when a Cat 4/5 hurricane slammed New Orleans.

Usually it's easier to determine by listening to their grasp of the English language. Or just listening to them blast Americans in Spanish. That usually gives one a big clue too.

Where in the hell do you get "color of their skin" out of anything that me and Elijahsbubbe have posted? I'm 4th generation Texan, live in Houston, and have lived in Katrina's ground zero. Have you ever spent any time in the NO area and known any residents? Before you become Miss "know it all" about the locals there then you STFU! I have friends and ex family that have lost everything there! I'm trying desperatley to get in contact with them! What do you have at stake???!!!

I have felt all week that I'm watching a virtual FR Katrina Live thread ......it's almost word for word what we thought would happen, right down to the riots.
there was a thread a day or two ago and it included names of churchs that were gathering together in Houston to pay for a month or two of meals....anybody know what thread that was?.......I think that it would be best to give directly to the churches involved..
