How dare Dershowitz come on the air and call Chief Justice Rehnquist a thug. It was immoral, gutless, rude, it was unacceptable and I was with both Mark Levin and Judge Napolitano who were equally disappointed in Dershowitz words and said so openly on the air. It was awful. Hannity did not even thank him for coming on the show offering his thoughts on the passing of the Chief Justice. WTG, Hannity.
I should have expected it out of Dershowitz. I mean earlier in the show they had other liberal's who were respectful and discussed Rehnquist's legacy. This guy brought up racist issues it was really unacceptable ... he was the THUG.
I have to admit, there was something morbid talking about who is going to replace him when perhaps the man has yet to get to the funeral home, but, I do realize this is a huge political hot potato and who is nominated and confirmed will make important decisions regarding this country for decades. I hope for decades.
The unique position of the Supreme Court stems, in large part, from the deep commitment of the American people to the Rule of Law and to constitutional government.
The United States has demonstrated an unprecedented determination to preserve and protect its written Constitution, thereby providing the American "experiment in democracy" with the oldest written Constitution still in force.
The complex role of the Supreme Court in this system derives from its authority to invalidate legislation or executive actions which, in the Court's considered judgment, conflict with the Constitution. This power of "judicial review" has given the Court a crucial responsibility in assuring individual rights, as well as in maintaining a "living Constitution" whose broad provisions are continually applied to complicated new situations.
Judicial Review, provided that the will of all the people as written in the constitution would reign supreme over the will of the legislature. Politics should remain out of the equation. Madison had said that interpretation should be left to those of independent judges.
The court has had to exercise due diligence in their selection of cases. I suppose many would say their case should have been heard but the choices I have no doubt may be difficult but Rehnquist's ability to choose as he had certainly helped the court to move efficiently.
When the court rules on a constitutional issue the judgement is usually final. However when the Court interprets a statute, new legislative action must be taken.
Chief Justice Marshall had said, "it is the constitution we are expanding ... intended to endure for ages to come, and consequently, to be adapted to the various crisis of human affairs."
Rehnquist, came to the court with experience, Nixon nominated him and Reagan nominated him, to Chief Justice, taking his seat September 26, 1986.
What has disappointed me, that as someone who grew up in the greater DC area, my classes in history and government covered the politics of Washington DC. Not sure how the rest of the high schools fair across the nation but from a few friends through the years, their knowledge of the day to day workings of the Supreme Court is lost to them. Also their purpose on the bench.
Many have felt they pander to one party or the other. Frankly there are some that lean to the left and some that lean to the right. Several have been put in my administrations thinking their choice will remain to their side in the years to come only to be shocked when their leanings change.
I have admired all who have served on the court. I hope the passing of Chief Justice Rehnquist gives an excellent starting point for school classes discuss and learn of what this fine man accomplished and the workings of the Court. What better send off to this fine man.
Finally, the left is always pissed at us. Bush is in his second term, he does not need to cow tow to anyone. His legacy is in tact in so many ways and even after the dust settles in the Katrina wake, it will be said that the states, well Louisiana dropped the ball. When asked the feds came, as shown in Mississippi.
Given that, there is one man whom he considered as a choice, before Roberts, he was from Louisiana some are saying he might be a good bet. Then put Roberts in the Chief job.
But, having said that, I hope if there is someone already on the bench, that has shown a keen eye to the constitution that Bush move that person up I mean there is something to be said for their years all ready on the bench.
Bush will be knocked no matter the choice so the hell with the left, the media or with me ... just put in the best man/woman for the job.
The vileness of Dershowitz is no big surprise, heck,he is what he is,which is very little.
The thing that impressed me the most, was that on live television,Levin,Napolitano, and Hannity(often ridiculed here)made it clear to anyone listening, that Dershowitz was unworthy of their regard, much less their respect.
Who is this self-contradicting liberal creep "Michele"? She should get her head out of her behind and figure out which way she wants it. "Michele" can decry Dershowitz all she wants, but I think she's probably a pandering liar who actually agrees with Dershowitz and is merely playing the "sensible liberal" role here.
Don't be an ass. My wife is not a liberal sympathizer of Dershowitz's, I assure you.
I am with you there, more than I can take in one day. I cannot imagine a person being of such "intellect" being as rude as he was.
Not a moment of respect only to hear himself rant of his dislike for anyone who does not share his view point.
How anyone could call him their friend, well birds of feather they sure do flock together.
with luck Dersh will choke on his breakfast. Would serve him right. Theres no point in being nice to any of these poeple. The only thing they understand is what they dish out. As with terrorists, you have to fight fire with fire. Same goes for scummy liberals who berate the dead before the body is even wrapped in a sheet.
This might be a first, being called a liberal and a liar. Strong words, I suspect you have not read my previous threads. I have always been fair, respectful, open minded a conservative who could be respected.
When I vote on a President, one of my concerns, if elected who would they put on the Supreme Court. Their rulings will have lasting influence. I do NOT want them legislating from the bench. I want the person to be well versed, love the law, love the country.
The hearings will be important, past hearings have turned into a circus. Frankly, when all is said and done, who ever is confirmed can change their point of view after years on the bench.
I believe in state's rights. I could go on but I suspect the line has been drawn in the sand as I review you post and anything I say will fall on blind eyes.
But appreciate that you took the time to reply.
You are right. BTW, you handle, how did it come about?
The left is becoming more and more unhinged and mentally unstable every day that passes. This is good folks. 'Normal people' need to see them as they really are.
Dershowitz did into the wind
Live
Thanks Alan
For archiving your epitaph.....
Alan was crass. To say more about Dershowitz would distract from Rehnquist's passing.
I heard this, and hope others did, too. In this country, you do not speak ill of the dead, especially just after they die.
Here's hoping Dershowitz's career and reputation is severely damaged by this.
Speechless...
Why wait????.....fenway
tftp. disgraceful conduct, and these buffoons do it only because they CAN.
Dirtyowitz is a media whore.
We cannot allow ourselves to be affected by their bias.
Don't stoop to his level.
My favorite quote about the Dersh is from Jonah Goldberg: "If you gave Alan Dershowitz a dose of Viagra, his posture would improve, hed get a ruddy complexion, and hed grow a few inches taller. Its doubtful his head could swell any more."
