Hell yea, maybe if Nagin would have said, "Hey check it out, if you stay you wont get paid" I bet that city would have been empty in 24 hours.

The most egregious example of this is that apparently there was absolutely no plan in place to evacuate those who were incapable of evacuating themselves, such as those in hospitals and who were bedridden. Those capable of fleeing who chose not to have no right to complain, IMHO.

The odd part is that the hurricane actually missed New Orleans. Had it hit dead center, all the people we have been watching on the tube would have been dead.

The same amount of water we see now, plus 20 or more feet of storm surge above that, plus waves and high winds. Few if any survivors.

CNN is now pushing new DemocRAT talking point: Pay the folks who stayed in New Orleans the same way as victims of 9-11.

Now that I think about it, seems rather racist of them to even bring this up. What about all poor (mostly white folks) that get hit by tornadoes they don't get 9-11 type checks.

Actually there was a plan, it was just not carried out: see this thread: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1477374/posts.

Those capable of fleeing who chose not to have no right to complain, IMHO.

I've been saying all along that the percentage of those who couldn't leave might be greatly exceeded by the percentage that wouldn't leave.

Old David knew a liberal DemocRAT when he saw one, didn't he?

Pay them? They should fine them, these folks are just bellies that need filling and bodies that need protecting.

Blame Bush? 44 55

Bush's Response to Katrina Approve Disapprove All 46% 47% Democrats 17 71 Independents 44 48 Republicans 74 22

That 44% "Blame Bush" response is the same 44% that blames Bush for everything. It is the hard-core anti-Bush, anti-War, anti-Everything dissaffected Left that thinks President Bush stole the election in 2000 and has not done a good thing since. This number has not budged an inch after Katrina. Nobody else wants to join the Moonbat Club.

The 46%/47% Approval/Disapproval number tracks the President's approval rate from before Katrina. So you have an additional three percent who do not think the President is evil incarnate who happen to disapprove of his management. The President is not going to make a lot of headway against that immovable 44%.

Fortunately, althought the moonbats are very, very angry, they do not seem to vote as much as normal folks, so electorally this can be sustained.

Yes this provides feedback to the media. They now know they must work much harder.

Interestingly, President Bush had to plead with local officials to evacuate. His begging probably save 10s of thousand of lives. Let's hope the truth comes out.

However, Bush should have recognized the level of incompetence he was dealing with at the local level.

The media is Sheehanizing the locals-making them heroes, covering their ineptitude.

Ditto. Millions of Americans have lost everything over the years due to natural disasters. I believe in helping people, but losing everything from a disaster does not entitle people to get a fortune from the taxpayers. If we gave everyone who lost all they had a million dollars, we'd go broke fast.

Thousands of Americans lose everything every day of the year in smaller scale disasters. We had a small town near our area almost destroyed by a tornado this summer with many in the small town losing their homes. They deserve emergency help but they don't deserve a fortune from taxpayers. Help them get back on their feet, and then let them find themselves. Believe me I'm exceptionally sorry for the state these poor people are in. In fact my wife and I are sending money like millions of others across the nation. But the simple fact is losing your home, etc. to a natural disaster does not qualify anyone to a free ride the rest of their life. And that also goes for the unfortunates in 9/11.

Well, I guess we could. After all, if we paid the victems, then we wouldn't have to rebuild the city. We paid the NYC victems and rebuilding is left to private funds. Shoot, just issue a few checks and walk away and then it's LA's problem.

I was at a friends barbeques last night. Most guests were worker buddies of the host, a contractor. I had never met. They were carpenters, plummers, roofers, etc...very blue collar.

Everyone of them blamed the local and state government. One fellow was in a rant about what do people think the government can do, make helicopters appear at the snap of a finger?

There was some really funny comments on Nagin and his radio interview. The line of the night was "taking the edge off my joneses".

To my amazement, people are getting it.

I guess this means we need to Federalize everything. Cities, Counties, and States. No need for local governments, just make everything Federal government.

I think these numbers are important because this is how they feel even with the overwhelming media bias. Wait until the facts start to emerge. But it's clear that anyone that blames the President at this point is playing partisan politics.

That should slow private relief contributions.

Wait until the actual details and time line come out.

I think there is plenty of blame to pass around to all concerned; especially at the local and state level. Right now I would check "all the above". But,I look forward to reviewing the detailed time line.
