Ray Nagin: School Busses Not Enough, Send Greyhound!

The more this guy opens his mouth, the deeper the hole...

Ray Nagin: School Buses Not Good Enough

New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin garnered a ton of publicity with a profanity-laced interview he gave to WWL radio last Thursday, where he blasted President Bush and Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco for not coming to rescue his city in time.

However, Nagin's most newsworthy comments - where he explained why he didn't use hundreds of city school buses to evacuate his city's flood victims - went almost unnoticed. Turns out, Nagin turned his nose up at the yellow buses, demanding more comfortable Greyhound coaches instead.

"I need 500 buses, man," he told WWL. "One of the briefings we had they were talking about getting, you know, public school bus drivers to come down here and bus people out of here."

Nagin described his response: "I'm like - you've got to be kidding me. This is a natural disaster. Get every doggone Greyhound bus line in the country and get their asses moving to New Orleans."

While Nagin was waiting for his Greyhound fleet, Katrina's floodwaters swamped his school buses, rendering them unusable.

'You can't make it up' What else is this guy hiding that's going to come out?

Can someone answer a question for me please? Did Nagin use ANY buses to evacuate? I'm fighting with a lib on another board. Thanks in advance.

Fellow Freepers:

At the suggestion of writer Michelle Malkin last Friday, I have cobbled together a blogsite called Texas Clearinghouse for Katrina Aid to serve as a clearinghouse for refugee efforts in Texas.

Texas is getting more refugees than any other state -- that's fine, we'll take them all -- but we need help providing them with food, clothing, medicine, and shelter. We need help taking care of their pets, too.

If you are a refugee, you can information that will help you find relief. If you want to donate or volunteer, you can find someone who needs you. Believe me, there are a lot of organizations who need your help.

Right now the site mostly covers Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas but I'm adding more every night. My wife was down at Reunion Arena in Dallas Tuesday handing out care packages and spiritually ministering to the refugees as a representative of her employer. She says that the situation is tragic and that there's a lot of work to be done. There are so many children who don't know where their parents are or even if their parents are still alive.

There are a lot of churches and other organizations in Texas that need help in dealing with the problem and I would appreciate it if you would get the word out.

Many thanks,

Michael McCullough

I heard one report that buses were evacuating (to Baton Rouge, I think) the occaisional person who wanted to before Saturday evening. Most so used had no takers and were apparently making scheduled trips empty or nearly so.

It was not specified who was the 'controlling authority' for these buses.

I have not seen or heard a credible report of any gov't effort to help handicapped or elderly before the disaster.

"McLellan might be the worst press secretary I've ever seen. He has that deer-in-the-headlights look to him."

Agreed. President Bush should hire as his press secretary someone with the personality of an Army or Marine Corps sergeant major. You know, the ones who are able to ignite a private's shorts at fifty yards with one word.
