Given the recent display of government incompetence perhaps they should annex the whole state!
"Whatchoo doin' hyeah, Rev'run Jackson?"
Oh please. Jackson will get his cut.
You read how the 9/11 fed money was doled out to inappropriate entitites and without oversight? New Orleans will be worse.
So we should tear down huge skyscrapers.. Move people from the Hurricane and earthquake zones. Forbid people to live in Tornado alley... Is that correct?
the looter jungle circus on CNN and other networks has probably had a profound impact on public support for doing ANYTHING to rebuild such a place.
Thanks for voting.
Rebuilding New Orleans will pay for itself over time, so I'm not worried so much about the amount of money I'll have to shell out for it. But do it right this time.
Sadly, recent history compels me to concur. Though I don't think Halliburton et al will be the bad guys. The bad guys will be the Liberals who'll go out of their way to pervert every egalitarian solution into a "women and minorities hardest hit" blamefest.
ONLY if they take back Quebec too!
Sure...but let the state of Lousyana pay for it. Over the yrs of corrupt Lousyana Officials, what needed to take place to stop the levee system from breaching, didn't. Therefore why should the American Taxpayer pay for it, the Lousyana corruption.
That is how it should be rebuilt..
Only as a port, and for historical purposes, and on land higher than the water level. As the delta fills in more can be built....
...end of transmission....
That's the way the world works at this point, unfortunately.
Take money out of citizen's pockets to fund corporate needs long term. It's the ultimate dishonesty but it doesn't hurt the elites so it will continue.
I am against rebuilding NO out of the tax dollars. (Even though it would benefit my purse long term, and not-so-long term). It's dishonest.

I think there are somethings that can be done to make it a doable project....
Beginning with the raising of the base until the entire area within whatever levee system they develop is above sea level. With the proper levee system cross hatched or in rings combined with a new pumping system, I think it can be kept dry or at least it won't be flooded like it is today. Lots of areas flood but the water recedes fairly quickly. That is the problem today with it being in a bowl and having to be pumped out.
Why do we have to move the rubble away? If they are planning to bulldoze what's there, then just fill in on top of it. Sounds like a good solid base. Get details from Chicago on building out of a swamp.
I do have to laugh at the thought of "too bad" for people without adequate insurance coverage. C'mon. Why should they pay for any insurance? They can get federal payments! What if federal funds only covered a loss above and beyond what a basic insurance policy would have paid out. If you didn't have the insurance, you don't get reimbursed.
Rather than rebuild it, let us rename the city Atlantis. New Orleans, as it was, should not be rebuilt. Nature is going to reclaim the low ground again if it is rebuilt.

The Port of New Orleans is not the same thing as the city of New Orleans. The entire port only requires 2500 people to operate it.
MSNBC did a piece on that a few days ago. Apparently most of the warehouses on the waterfront have been getting converted into high end lofts over the past several years because they weren't needed any more. Modern port techniques move freight directly from the ship to the truck, and vice-versa, so the traditional port facilities...and workforce...are no longer needed. You DON'T need a city of a half-million people to support an industry that needs only a few thousand workers.
Since the area is a toxic mess now anyway, pump the water out and drill for oil. Put the rest of the city on higher ground.
