They will turn them if it becomes a mandatory evac. Right now they are open both ways and cross traffic if someone will let you cross..... Right now our county except for the coast and those needing special assistance is still in the voluntary evac mode. That may change by morning.
Yes I'll have computer access in Dallas.
I'll try and holler if things work out such that we aren't captured by the grandkids... I don't intend to be there very long if the storm doesn't do a lot of damage in our area....
That was some landing, wasn't it? I was surprised the gear didn't shear, but they did the right thing in landing at LAX.
I was kidding. We're going to have some folks at our place, it appears, so I don't know what we'll be doing after they get here.

Mayor of Pasadena has issued a mandatory evacuation order. It's in the cat 4-5 storm surge area. I'd git my tush out of there.
Rita is now the 3rd strongest storm ever recorded in the Atlantic/Gulf. 173 MPH gusts to 213, central pressure 898mb. Katrina was around 908 mb at her strongest. Forward progress has slowed to 9 mph.
DFW and the Red River to the north will get really heavy rain, because it's probably going to slow down when it gets that far inland.
Center of the track shows landfall over the southwest end of Galveston Island. Worst possible track for the Galveston and Houston Metro area, from a storm surge perspective. If the track holds, the eye will be going over all you folks in Sugar Land and the rest of the west Houston area. You won't get bad flooding, but the wind is liable to literally blow your house down or up or at least sideways.
Well I guess that means we're out of here. I'm out by Blackhorse Ranch. Time to load up and drive out to Columbus/New Ulm. The scary thing is, it's not that much further away when you are in a hurricane.
The Aggies are the only Vet school in Texas, so your animals should be in good hands. It's harder to get in to vet schools than it is Med schools, and the students are virtually all animal lovers.

Left Kingwood this afternoon w/ three Siamese cats, precious photos, meds, a ragtag collection of clothes and most of my wits about me. Usual 3-1/2 to 4 hour trip took 7, but that's a heckuva lot faster than things are moving now.
My fiancee decided to stay behind with the dog. Doesn't want to leave the house unattended, blah, blah, blah. Don't ask. Whole thing makes me crabby. Please say a prayer for them. Thanks.

Will be hunkering down with either my dad, eastforker, or my boyfriend. Hell, he lives in the Galleria area, so he may be hunkering down at eastie's place with me, at my (not so subtle) insistence.
Doing last minute stuff here, pulling all my important papers, sentimental items, and valuables.
Prayers for those in the area, and those with loved ones in the area.

My employer, Outback Steakhouse will be very involved with helping out first responders with food, and basically wherever and however we can. My store sent a team to Gulfport (I went with the first wave to stage everything and get things rolling) the day after Katrina, and we did a lot of good. I'm off of Grant, about halfway between Louetta and Spring-Cypress.
It looks to be maybe 5~6 miles east of Carlucci.
We evacuated the wimmin and children last night (see #462) so it's just me, by brothers, the pets (2 cats + 1 dog) and one doddling sister-in-law who are left.
Looks like we're gonna skidaddle sometime late this afternoon or evening.
We're tentatively heading east to Lake Charles, but that's subject to change as we get more detailed information throughout the day.
No idea what happened....cop circled parking lot for a bit, then helo flew circles for awhile.

I'm good! Too many family members affected by Katrina and Rita, though. Cousin and her kids are flying out of Houston as I type. Inlaws driving out. Aunt/Uncle and cousin just returning to Slidell from Katrina. This is one hell of a Fall!
