Extremely dangerous and large Category Five Hurricane Rita is churning westward across the Gulf of Mexico toward Texas. Air Force Reconnaissance indicated the central pressure has dropped to 904mb, making Rita the fifth most intense hurricane ever in the Atlantic Basin.

Hurricane and Tropical Storm Watches have been issued from Northern Mexico through the South Louisiana coastline. Galveston TX used school buses to evacuate residents. Mandatory and voluntary evacuations are in effect along the Texas coastline.

Hi Folks,

Glad to see Texas has it more together as far as Evacs.

Prayers that prayers won't be needed, if you catch my drift.

Cheers!

Here's the latest strike map. The majority of the models are converging between Corpus Christi and Houston. For those of us in Texas, that means that everything inward from Wichita Falls, through Dallas and Fort Worth, and to far East Texas can expect major winds, heavy rains, and possible tornados.

What's the record low barometric pressure for a hurricane? BTW, thanks for these threads. I lurk quite a bit trying to catch up on information.

Is anyone watching that judge on WHOU? He is begging for ambulances and troopers.

Forgive me for saying this, but I'm praying that either the hurricane subsides or that it make a sharp turn left towards Mexico...I don't want my state to end up like N.O. I have family and friends there!

Posting Beatles' lyrics since I was not specifically told not to...:D

Lovely Rita meter maid
nothing can come between us
When it gets dark I tow your heart away

Standing by a parking meter
when I caught a glimpse of Rita
Filling in a ticket in her little white book
In a cap she looked much older
And the bag across her shoulder
Made her look a little like a military man

Lovely Rita meter maid
may I inquire discreetly
When are you free to take some tea with me

Took her out and tried to win her
had a laugh and over dinner
Told her I would really like to see her again
Got the bill and Rita paid it
Took her home and nearly made it
Sitting on a sofa with a sister or two

Lovely Rita meter maid
where would I be without you
give us a wink and make me think of you

Lovely meter maid
Rita meter maid
oh, Lovely Rita meter, meter maid

I managed to get that info into the header of this thread...along with the fact that Galveston uses school buses for evacuations.
